You hunt with a xbow? what'ca you shooting? I'm new to this and now have a titan 10 point with carbon bolts with 100 grain nap for turkeys. I'm thinking of this set up should do well on whitetails as well. Happy hunting........m:D

I bought a crossbow in December of 2005 as a way to start my then 9 year old son deer hunting in Ohio. I started his older brother with a shotgun when he was 10, and after that experience I came to the conclusion that the crossbow was a better starting point.
We purchased a Horton bow - it's a very basic model, it only cost around $300. We use 100 grain Montec G-5's.
My 9 year old son ended up killing his first deer with it last year on September 30th in Ohio. It was one of the greatest mornings I've ever spent afield.
My intent in purchasing it was for each of my boys to use it on our Ohio hunts until they developed enough strength to pull adequate poundage with a compound, at which point they will be able to begin archery hunting in MI. However, on a couple of occasions I've chosen to take it out while hunting in Ohio. I still haven't quite got the hang of handling the bulkiness of it while in a tree stand - candidly, I've found it to be quite a hassle to deal with while in a tree. When I take my boys out we hunt out of two person ladder stands - in the two person stands the size of the crossbow doesn't pose nearly as much of a challenge as it does when hunting out of a stand that only accomodates one person. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the change of pace, and I will probably continue to use it on occasion when I hunt in Ohio.

Congrats to your son Man I can't wait till my grandson is old enough to take a deer. He hunts with me now and when he's old enough he's pumped up over the fact he may take a deer with my xbow:D .
I agree about the bulky issue with them. I sure wouldn't like to hold mine long on a deer so I bought a set of shooting sticks for ground hunting. So far so good. Going out in the AM for turkeys yet so I'll have to give it the real field test hopefully:lol: Only problem is getting those toms to stay still for a couple seconds:D happy hunting......m
