Mercury Kiekhaefer Engine

I have a 1970, 65 h.p. Mercury outboard engine that won't rev up to high speed. It starts every time, and idels perfect, but will not go fast enough to plane out the boat. Before the engine was stored (for a decade) it ran great.

If anyone has any suggestions and or knows a good mechanic in the Charlotte area please let me know

Fuel issue. Either sucking air from the fuel line (the pump bulb is always a suspect) or the fuel pump is shot. These things go bad sitting over time.
