Hello all Ice fishing nut and I went out this morning and we did ok we ended up with 8 until the wind got so bad there where whitcaps and some pretty decent waves in the river.. We got 2 jigging and 6 pulling crawler harnesses the wind finaly got so bad boat control became a problem so we stopped at 10:30am.. I was running down stream at 1.6 mph today just a tad slower than I normally because the fish are just getting going on harnesses, once they get going real good I will be running 2.3mph, Thw fish where biting on Gulp 4" turtle back in pumpkin seed color and we also got some on white twister tails.. Mike had a good time we will do it again once my back gets better, I did end up calling in today and just rest it up so I can get back to fishing sooner:lol:.. Cya Slick

Launched there last night. It is functional, but is supposed to still be closed. Just by the look of the paving equipment I'd say they will be paving any day now. I would not go there unless your decent or better at backing a trailer.

No the whole parking lot was blocked off this morning and said it was closed no way in.. I am pretty sure there about to pave the parking lot and be ready to start paying to launch:yikes: Cya Slick

I heard you guys were slacking a bit this morning. I launched out of Algonac this morning and went 6 for 14 jigging until 8:30. Came right home and sharpened the hooks. All fish came on a gold jig with a smelt colored zoom fluke. 36 ft of water.

Yeah the bite was kinda slow compared to how I have been doing in this area but I still think we could have got our limit if the wind would not have picked up like it did, you know how it is you cant limit every time but it's fun to try:lol: Cya Slick

I fished the SCR with Shoeman most of the day. We landed 3 while missing a few others. I should say Shoeman landed three and I lost the only fish I had on.
I couldn't even begin to tell you where we fished being from downriver and just a passenger. It was only my second time up that way.
The wind made boat control horrible and I tangled my two lines twice and spent some time untying knots.:help:

Thanks Matt I am sure I will be up and running soon, I did not have as much fun out there as I normally would because when your back is giving you trouble it just sucks..
Gunrod yes that wind was some thing today.. Cya Slick

We kinda got a late start.
Tried jigging for a while among the pack below the Park, but didn't see much activity, not to mention boat control. Taking a page out of Slick's book, we decided to troll harnesses down by the Ferry. Got one right at the Algo Launch and lost another. Got one right above the mouth of the Middle and one down by Legas. Missed 4-5 others that came unbuttoned on the way up. Not bad for fishing mid-day. Everything came on hammered brass/red beads/gulp. Probably should have fished a little deeper water during that time of the day, but got stuck in rut.
Nice thing, all of them were over 21".

Hey Shoeman when it comes to running harnesses I will do it any time of the day even tho I think the morning and evening are the best, pulling harneses any time of the day has worked great for me the last few years so I just go when I can go.. There is one factor that is just hard to deal with and thats the wind, I try to find diffrent spots on the river that I can hide from it if I can and fish that area just so I can get boat control.. That is why I like having my Canadian paper so if the wind is coming hard out of the east I will run the Canadian side as long as who ever is fishing with me has a Canadian fishing licence as well..Cya Slick

I really appreciate all of the help you have provided the entire membership over the years. I'm still trying to find the "better" drifts. :gaga: Last year I primarily used the electric, but that was tough in windy conditions. I was going to install a kicker on my boat, but there were support issues and I decided to add a plate on the 90. Now I can get it below 1.5. Those Middle Channel eyes better look out...LOL
Thanks again!!

I assume you guys are just drifting with the current using trolling motors or kickers for boat control? Or are you actually "trolling" the harnesses? I normally just use drift socks to control my speed drifting harnesses.

I troll down stream at a little faster than the current normally during the summer my speed by the gps is 2.3mph but when the bite is judt getting started i troll a little slower around 1.7.. No I dont drift I like trolling better and it seems to produce more fish and keeps off the gobies if your running real worms.. Cya Slick

Yeah, the Goby thing is a pain, for sure. Guess I'll try actually trolling some.
