Headed over to the Little man first thing Tuesday morning. The river was heavily stained. Fished for about four hours, I didn't hook anything and only saw two salmon making their way upstream.
After fishing the Little I headed over to tippy for some brown trout action. The river was up a tad but still clear. Surface fishing was pretty solid because of a great caddis hatch. I actually quit early because I was getting sick of caddis crawling all over my arms and neck!!!! I saw one skam caught(15lbs) and no chins. I didn't get a water temp but it was pretty warm still so if you were planning on making an early salmon trip you might want to bring along a backup plan!
Steve, sorry about not getting to hook up for a fishing trip this time!!!( I tried to email you Monday night but it apparently didn't go through!)
One last thing, I wasn't planning on reporting #'s of fish caught or size but I havta do a little bragging! I caught my largest fly caught brown Tuesday @ Tippy it was 18" and took a size 10 adams. Hopefully the pictures turn out good so I can add them to this thread :)

That had to be a hog of a brown considering the size of those Wild Rose strain fish. I have caught some 20's and over this year down from tippy and all had to go over 6lbs. Dont expect to get into any salmon if you decide to try it. Way too early to consistently catch salmon or seek out salmon in specific on the big river. Well, maybe a couple of areas but I wont tell ya' where. It's funner to explore anyways. If you have any experience and salmon fishing sense you should be able to easily find these two spots. Good luck....

Yeah! That fish had major girth in fact she looked a lot shorter because of it. As far as your salmon spot, yeah I probably can find it if I really wanted to but there is a lot of salmon fishing to do in the next two months and I don't really want to burn myself out before things really get started!

Sounds like you had fun with that brownie WEEZ, I had a little bit of fun but not as much as you. Had to buy a 7/8 weight rod in a pinch at a party store because I forgot my usual one. Will that do for Steelhead/Salmon?

Steve, sorry for butting in, but yes a 7-8 wt is fine for steel and salmon, in fact I'd say just right for steel. I use either a 6 wt or a 7 for both depending on where I am fishing. For heavier current rivers (I.E. manistee) I go with a seven.

Great! It was a real cheapo Mitchell. Can't wait to try it with some of WEEZER's fly recipes in our fly library.
