I have never targeted walleye, but would love to give it a try. I see quite a few of your are experts on this topic. Would you be willing to help me undertstand the best lures/presentations for catching eyes? I fish Southwestern MI and have a few lakes around me that hold some eyes. They are not full of them, but they're there. Would trolling at night with bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses be a good start? I am also wondering about how I should get them during daylight hours. Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Oh my.....how to fish for walleyes? There are books written on it! On small lakes, a good way to start trying is either slow trolling (or fast drifting) crawler harnesses with a bottom bouncer. If you are fishing shallow water, try casting a 3/8 oz jig with a 3 or 4" tail (white or chartreuse).

Other than that, ask around at the local bait shops, talk to guys at the boat ramps or the DNR guys. Also, read and contribute to this forum-it is a great source of tips. We seldom will tell you exactly where to go-but we will almost always tell you how to do it.

:yeahthat: Nothing beats a big glob of worm on any lake. Just look for transitions on the bottom that will hold baitfish. usually walleye will gather wherever the food is. If you know a good perch hole, that would be a good place to start.;)

Hay RK im not quite a pro but ive been Walleye fishing with my dad for 20 years and have always done very well even in the smaller landlocked lakes. Cant really judge someone by there results in the "Rivers" (Detroit River and Saint Clair River) at times its like shooting fish in a barrel. Walleye are very specific where ther feed they generely stick to the colder water so anywhere you can find a drop off with bait fish (Perch are walleyes favorite food) in a body of water that holds Eye's you can usually pick them up. Also in the warmer months June-August you can find them suspended and of course on the bottom. As far as what method to use you can always Jig for them just make sure your vertical. For trolling or draging crawler harnesses you need to be VERY specific with your trolling speed, Colder water the slower you usually wanna troll like 1.7-2.1 MPH warmer water is usually a bit faster but start with 1.8,1.9-2.5,2.8 MPH.. Trolling u can use Walleyedivers, hot'N'tots, bombers ETC. Remember the farther out your line the deeper your bait will run I suggest a counter reel (Counts the amount of line you have out) If you are looking for more info InFisherman has a number of very helpfull books and cd/tapes that will help you locate and target walleyes also there are always shows on the outdoor network that show you how to target walleyes specifically on inland lakes hope this info helps you good luck PK..
