Ok I swear I posted this report earlier this afternoon but here goes again!
Fished the little river saturday night and sunday afternoon downstream from the weir and between 9mile and 6mile roads, Nothing doing! The water was high and muddy and I only saw a few trout rising.
After seeing the water conditions I headed to tippy and did well on browns. I caught 15 or so of them between 8 and 13 inchers. Fish were taking adams #12, daves hoppers and elk hair caddis #14. There wasn't much of a caddis hatch going on this weekend(Normally they are super thick!!!!) I don't know why!
scamania action was really slow this weekend! I didn't see any caught but I saw a few breaking surface and I saw a pod holding in the logs next to the high bridge along with some carp.

Don't worry, there is still good caddis activity in the evening. Skamania are in the river pretty well at this time. A very limited amount of kings have made their way to Tippy thus far. They are very tough to find this time of year. Browns are tough on streamers it seems in the lower river below Tippy. The best days for me have been cloudy with streamers fished deep in the middle of long runs like Suicide, the Gravel Island, etc. Red Bridge stretch is still hot. Pike fishing can be excellent in the slower portions of the river this time of year. They are usually mammoth sized fish too. They eat a lot of trout i guess. Anyways, i'm out of here, peace.

So the coffer is not a good place to go this time of year if you just want to catch a lot of small browns and don't care much about size?
Steve I was at Tippy most of last week and saw lots small browns caught, and all kinds of ammo. Flies, crawlers were the most predominant. My wife hooked her very first skamania, now she wants to go all the time, don't you hate it when that happens. Anyways, there weren't that many people around, and not really that many skamanias, but enough to keep the interest there. The little manistee hads lots of kings hanging around the weir, some of them were pretty dark already, so there is certainly should be some in the big man as well, but not enough to target I guess, but it won't be long now.

Whoa, toto there are no kings holding at the wier!!!!! I don't belive you were hallucinating however things have rapidly changed since you were there last!!!!
Anyway the water below the culpher is good for small browns 8-13 and sometimes a larger one If you are lucky. I'll tell ya if you want to try for browns concentrate on the Wellston side and fish the shallow gravel inbetween all the drop offs.
There were caddis hatching as always however not like they usually do!
Not to offend anyone here but I think fishing scams is a waste of time. seriosly. I have put in quite a few sleepless nights over the past two years and have had only one encounter! If anyone is getting into them good let me know! I would like to tag along and watch.

You are right, skamania are not worth the time spent that you could be fishing brown trout that are practically the same size, more exciting, aggressive and far less aggravated from the tons of people. I personally get enough of the potramadramous fish in the spring and fall. And no, there are very few salmon in at this time. It is a very un-dependable fishery this time of year and really cant be directly targeted with consistency until August.

WEEZER, come on now I don't drink anymore, I don't smoke any roll your own cigs, and my wife was with me; I swear to GOD we saw at least 25 or so salmon below the weir on the Little Manistee. I believe it was either the 4th or the 5th, but either way it was last week, really it was.
