My '82 Champion bass boat/'82 Mercury 150 BlackMax has a hot foot throttle. I despise this thing, and want to convert back to the hand control. The hand control is still on the boat, and is currently just used for starting, tilt/trim and gear selection. I can't seem to figure out how to get the throttle unit apart to re-install the cable. There two screws on the plastic control box, but the unit doesn't come out when you take these screws out. It seems like the throttle/shift handle is in the way. I don't want to break anything, and the box is all plastic. Any ideas on how to convert this back? Thanks!

Where are you located?

Even if you get that thing apart, the hand control may only be for shifting. It might not have a hook up for Throttle. My buddies is like that.

It definately has throttle controls, as it's marked on the control box and there's a place for the cables to go in.

Thats good. I had to take apart my control box on my tracker last yr. There were a TON of hidden screws, widgets and whatnot. I think the kicker was a set screw located on the on the bottom side of the Neurtal Button. It was a Hex head.

sometimes the companys already put a throttle cable in and hide it under the rear deck coiled up, check you control box for 2 cables going into it then remove the hotfoot cable from the motor and hook up the coiled one. its the top cable on the engine, if you have to install a new throttle cable get one the same length as the shift cable, it should be marked on the cable jacket about a foot from the motor end of the cable.
