Hey all,
Recently I've been fishing the Big M, drifting flies with a spinning outfit. Had great luck (4 fish at least 14" in 2 trips, a couple of much larger fish on, not landed :D ). Also, I've seen a lot of folks using softshell tails doing just as well. My question is: Does anyone have longtime experience with both methods in this river? Does one do better than the other? And are the tails fished still, or are they drifted also.
Thanks and best of luck to all the trout fanatics.

I have spent considerable time below Tippy and I have used both methods!
For browns I have had best results using dry flies(Caddis, hoppers and adams). also pheasant tail nymphs and caddis larvae.
I actually haven't caught anything using crawfish tails however I have seen enough scams and browns taken to know that they are a top notch bait!!!!! A friend of mine uses tails with good success. He takes the tail meat and ties them up in black netting(like a spawn sack). then bottom bounces them above the culpher or uses floats when below the culpher.
