Hey fellas, trailer tire question. Last night (after coming home from fishing in the morning) I noticed one of my tires on the trailer had gone flat. Haven't had a chance to look and see if it was a nail or what, but both tires are pretty old and I figured they were gonna crap out one of these days. I plan on replacing both to be on the safe side. Where do you guys recommend buying new ones at? Best prices, etc. It's a 16' aluminum boat, so the tires aren't very big. I'm not super mechanic/tire savvy so I'm not 100% sure what size they are. Maybe 13 inch or something like that? I'll have to read them again, I forget. Thanks in advance fellas.:)

I recently learned my lesson and I'll ALWAYS post a WTB ad on this site before I go buy anything. Someone has what you're looking for lying around in the garage.

That said, I was at Bass Pro this weekend and passed by their wheels/tires. I don't know how they rate vs. Walmart or Belle Tire.

I had a couple new trailer tires installed at Belle Tire two years ago. Can't remember the exact price but it was reasonable. I like Discount Tire too. Last winter I went in to drop off the front tire of my dad's tractor because it wouldn't hold air. I figured I'd just have them put a tube in it. The guy said "I'm not busy. If you want to wait I'll look at it right now". So I waited. About ten minutes later he came back in and said it was just a bead leak. So I told him to go ahead and fix it. About 5-6 minutes later he came back out with the tire and it was all set. He said he'd take it out and put it in the truck for me. I said OK and said that I'd take care of the bill while he did that. He just said "NO CHARGE. Just come back and see us when you need tires". I was shocked and thanked him. I know where I'm going when I need new tires! :)

Scott Clayton at Bell Tire on Rochester Road did the same for me as Jpollman. They are really good guys, also make sure when you are bargin hunting get trailer tires not Auto tires, there is a big difference in the strength of the sidewall. Cost a little more but worth it IMO.

you can get a 13" tire on a new rim at tractor supply for about 40.00 or just the tire for 20.00

Here's a link to some trailer tire information and tire/rim prices, good to use for comparison.
This site is for Eastern Marine, I have ordered enough from them to rebuild my tandem axle trailer, drums, elec brakes for all 4 wheels, etc.

I know from experience that you should be looking for a good quality tire, not a good time to be cheap, I am very happy with the goodyear marathon trailer tire, friends of mine with carlise tires have had problems. Tire selection may not ba as important in a lighter boat as I am talking fiberglass boat but if you have ever had a tire blow out or worse been stranded along road you'll know what I mean. Good Luck!!

For those who are near the indiana border, Tredit is a great place to buy tires. They are in Elkhart and a wholesaler but deal with the general public as well. 10"x tire and rim, 38 bucks.

:yeahthat: Discount Tire is my first choice, followed closely by Belle. I've bought from both many times, and have no issues with either on price or service.

When buying trailer tires size is not the only issue. The Load Range needs to be adequate. As mentioned above trailer tires are different than car tires. I think my trailer has load range B tires good for 1350#s each. 4 tires x1350 = 5400#s. The tires are 6 or 8 ply and need to be maintained @ 50 PSI. My boat and trailer loaded weigh in @ about 4000#s

Wow, thanks for all the replies fellas! Again, I'm not super tire savvy, but here's what I got. They are Carlilse tires and they say Sport & Trail on the sides. Their 12 x 480. 5 Lug. And it was a nail. It looks like the head of an 8 penny in there. I must've picked it up comin outta St. Jeans. I think I'm just gonna get it patched. I took the tire off last night, and put my spare on in its place. Belle Tire was closed at 6 by the time I got home, but I hope to get there early enough today. I'll get that nail patched, and then put that tire on my tongue holder as my spare. Again, thanks for all the ideas and options fellas. And BigCountry, if those are the kind of tires you have laying around, give me a holla. You guys rock!:)
