Can you guys tell me what size width stretcher boards you guys prefer for michigan coons. I see basswood boards from 6 3/4 wide to 8 1/2". What preferred size or sizes do you guys use???

Thanks

I just spoke with NAFA last week and asked about a rumor that MI coon boards have changed. The answer I got was that "Nope, there's no change".

NAFA told me some years ago that I needed to use the "Northern U.S. Section-8" butt (Heavy) for everything except the kits. The kits go on the "Central & Southern U.S. Section-7" butt (Semi-Hvy & Coat).

I've always done extremely well with these boards.

Talking with Greg Schroeder (sp) from NAFA this past week at Goshen and he is in fact using an 8" board on his Wi coon. He indicated that Mi coon should be handled tha same way.

if you use wire stretchers make sure the tip is not too narrow. they don't like long noses on the coon.
the basswood boards don't have that problem.
i use 8" wide board for most of my coons and do real well at the sales.
