well
it seems every spring i have a problem

this year its the power tilt

i hooked up all the batteries and wires and eveything worked except the power tilt

the motor turns over-but the power tilt just clicks-why?

i was thinking maybe the battery is old(its 6 years old), and says 12.4 v with a multimeter. Everything else works with it-why not the tilt?

the clicking comes from the selinoid area(atleast i think its from that area). I replaced the selenoid last spring(along with the starter).

its a 2001 200 merc efi

Any suggestions?

Possibly a relay? If you're getting a click, the switch seems to be OK. Maybe there's a dirty contact in the relay.

Possibly try a different battery or maybe put some jumpers from another battery to that one. Then if it's a battery issue it should work.

This is the first thing that came to my mind. If I think of anything else I'll post it here.

Good luck!

John

What size motor?

Does the tilt/trim motor just mount with two pins, one on top and one on the bottom?

Is this site great or what!!?

Someone asks a question about trim and tilt, and bam, you get a reply from a guy that designed and built the stuff!! What more could ya want!!

The folks on here never fail to amaze me!

I'd replace the two relays. There is one for the up, and one for the down. I've seen this a few times before where one shorts out and then they both don't work. A cheap fix too.

I have fixed a unit about 3-4 times for a guy. What the problem I most commonly encounter, is the motor shaft gets some surface rust on it and it stalls the motor. The solenoids and relays are a little costly. You can by pass those to make sure they are not the problem. PM me your phone # or get me some pictures and post them here and I can help.

Swamp, a couple of years back I worked with a guy for a couple hours each day and he got it fixed.

Yea a lot of times its just that the motor has not spun for a while, once you get them to spin they work for the rest of the season, I would be sure parts are bad before I spent money on new ones,,, it’s not hard to jump out the solenoids, often a quick bump in the other direction will get her to spin, other times a little pull and clean is required. FREEPOP can walk you through it ,,you may want to take him up on his offer!

Pop,
that 150 xr6 in the post from 2003 is the same boat/motor that I was having trim issues with last year. small world. Mine still isn't right but hasn't given out yet.

Good luck fife. Glad we have some good guys here (pop and tonga). I might need their help soon.
