Fished the Sable River a hidden jewel on the state's north west side. Caught and released one barely legal brown and had a few other good rips. Pictures and probably a new stream log to follow for the logs section of the site.

Sable River Brown
Note the red spot on this fish. Don't know if it was a cancerous type growth or some sort of injury.

Steve,
Nice report. Makes me want to put it on my list of rivers to explore. Thank you for the info and areas.

Doubtful as the Hamlin Lake Dam should keep lampreys out of the Sable River.

This stream should be one not listed.......by name. A nice small stream that cannot take alot of abuse. Just my 2 cents.

multibeard,
there are a few types of lamprey that are native to michigan and inhabit small streams well above any impoundments.

Yeah that looks like a lamprey mark to me. I live on paris creek which is up stream from all the dams on the Muskegon and we get lampreys that spawn here every year:( fun chopin with a shovle

Please check the date of Steve's post.
Even if that stream should be one we avoid mentioning, are you actually concerned with a report from Steve from 2000?
I thought that 2000 was pre-paleo-riverreportcrybaby. :D

IF we are going to limit which rivers we can state then this one in my opinion should be off limit. If not then lets talk about all the rivers.:D :D

Yup.
You'd be living in a cage not to know about this river but I understand peoples position. I am with them for what it's worth.

Is this "bring up old threads week" on MS.COM?

Guys no offense but this post is nearly 6 years old. This site and the internet were a much different place back then. I doubt anyone is going to run to the Sable river because Steve caught one small slightly deformed brown trout 6 years ago Relax a little bit, there are lots of trout streams that hold similar trout in w/ in 20 miles of the Sable. I agree with Whit, this thread should just die peacefully in its sleep the way it did 6 years ago
