Well there are are steelies on the beds! no fresh runners yet "the Muskegon is always last". But the MEAT hunters are out in force.Low water and fish in the shallows make for easy snaggin!! of course there is no DNR officer to be found!! They started shocking for walleyes this week.that doesn't help matters.Way to much boat traffic. I am starting to think they should put a size limit on boats and there motors on rivers that have under cut banks. The rivers were not designed to have boats creating 2 to 3 foot rollers that slam in to the bank. This causes MASSIVE bank errosion. besides who realy needs a 18 foot boat with a 150 horse jet pump on the back. Man i live 1 mile from the river as the crow flies and I can here them when they fly up the river. Plus they think they OWN the river!!!Especialy the "guides"!!The one who writes for Michigan out of doors is the worst! I can see we are going to exchange pleasantry's before this run is done.Oh well enough whinin for now!! good Luck and happy hookin

Dutchman I agree. I felt like I was going to get run over wading in the middle of the Manistee last weekend.

I am a boat owner and would sugest staying to the side of the river instead of standing in the middle of it !! I agree that some of the HP's are way out of line. I have a 14'boat with a 20hp motor and I feel that is the limit. When I fish I try to be as curtious as possible to you guys in the water. Sometimes it is difficult to manuver because of the masses of people. I am all for limiting the size of the vessels that are allowed on the rivers. Next week we may see the "Love Boat"

Well, I was towards the middle of the river as that's where a nice hole was. I must add that for the most part, all the skippers were very conscientious about slowing down around the waders. You just have to be very aware of all the traffic that is going up and down.

I haven't had many problems with boats but I have had many problems with guides anchoring in front of my drift.
Last spring I had a guide anchor directly infront of me(Less than 10 yds) and began dropping his plugs back into the tailout.
I got into a big shouting match with the guide. He didn't move until I got the support from a couple of other bank anglers. I feel sorry for the clients!

Went out opening day and got my limit {4 rainbows,1 brown } on the Muskegon below Croton. Nothing big, 12-14 inches. Excellent eaters though. Will probly keep enough for another meal or two before start practicing catch and release. LOTS of people! Probly because of a fresh batch of steelhead that showed up.
