Anyone have any advice for setups for perching? I've been using just a plain hook with a minnow or wigler. I'm wondering if there's some good jigs I should be trying. I know Jammin' Jigs work great through the ice and I didn't know what I should be using on the soft water. Also I've read that some of the bait's like Gulp work for panfish too. I hope to be chasing them this weekend!

I usually use a perch spreader rig with either wigglers or minnows.

I used to use perch rigs and perch spreaders,,, I found I spent more time untangling those things than fishing. Now I just drop-shot or double drop-shot 'em with plain hooks or small jigs. If the water is murky,, I use the jigs just to get some color down there.

In deep water (20+) I use storm crappie rigs w/red beads and smaller hooks..and a least 1/2 oz weight. Minnow on top and two wigglers on the bottom hook. In shallower water I use the same jigs (teardrops) as I use during ice season under a bobber with a couple wigglers and/or perch eye. Best color has been orange.

When I perch fish on St Clair I have one set up with a spreader and one with an 1/8 oz chartreuse Foxee jig tip with aminnow head or one inch piece of worm. I like the jig because it's simple and if they're biting hot I can get it up and down quickly.

I use spoons whenever I go for perch, Northland forage Minnow, Swedish Pimples or Hopkins in 1/4 oz. in shallow water and 1/2 oz. in deeper water, usually with no bait, but at times I'll put a Perch eye on for a little scent.

On Lake Michigan I usually add a 1" piece of twister tail in flourescent orange, green or yellow to the bottom hook of a three hook set up. 3/8 or 1/2 oz bell sinker, hooks tied on short leaders about 8-10" apart, minnows for bait on one rod, the other just one hook drop shotted that I cast out from the boat and slowly drag back in. Almost always use a #4 gold colored hook.
