WHOA! I Hadn't read this before.....
April 20, 2007) -- This is the latest you need to know about Clemson defensive end Gaines Adams: He put on a spectacular performance during the NFL Scouting Combine. Adams turned in a blazing 4.46 in the 40-yard dash. He also posted a 4.36 in the short shuttle and a 7.17 in the three-cone drill, strong indicators of his explosiveness and agility. During Clemson's March 13 Pro Day, Adams showed off his strength by bench-pressing 261 pounds 21 times.
Most draft projections have Adams as the first defensive player to be selected, likely within the first five picks and possibility as high as No. 2 overall.
Among the teams he has visited are the Detroit Lions (who pick second), the Washington Redskins (sixth), and the Minnesota Vikings (seventh).
This is what else you need to know about Adams:
Scouts have been blown away by his remarkable speed, athleticism and explosiveness. They also are impressed with his ability to play in a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme and his development of various pass-rush moves.
Adams has most of the ingredients to be a dominant force in the NFL, although he could stand to add more bulk to his 6-foot-4-plus, 261-pound frame and play with more aggressiveness.

Sounds to me like they already have a guy very similar. His name is Kalimba Edwards.
The Lions are stupid if they don't grab Calvin Johnson assuming they keep the #2 pick.

Adams would be ok, although I was not thrilled that he was one of the three players that admitted to have smoked pot in college during his combine interview (we don't need another CRog) but I would not pick him at number 2. If we don't have a trade nailed down prior to picking, then they should take Calvin Cornbread and then try to deal him. If they are unable to trade him and are stuck with a wide receiver corp of Calvin, Roy & Furrey, things could be worse, especially since Roy only has one more year before becoming a FA. Depending on how far back they are able to trade I'd be looking at Adams past the 5 spot or Willis past the 7 spot.

Numerous players admitted smoking pot in their interviews but these are the three names that got leaked to the media because of their draft status according to ESPN.com
If everyone told the truth, I wouldn't be surprised if 98% of the players admitted it.

I'd be more worried about some guy saying that they never smoked it, wondering if they lied about it. If a guy tells you straight up that yes, he's
smoked some Hippie Lettuce at least give him points for admitting it.
Sign the guy to a contract that states " one positive test and you forfet every penny of your $30 Million dollars contract", than spring random tests on him every week. Sometimes twice!!!
Who goes thru high school and college with out smoking a little herb?

They need to trade down if they can get a top 7 pick and another second round pick.

I think if they do not trade out of the pick that they should take Calvin Johnson, or Jamarcus Russell (whoever is available). If they trade with Tampa and get a second and third round pick, they should take Adams. If they trade with Atlanta (and get 2 seconds and maybe a 3rd), in my opinion it will be a coin flip between Amobi Akoye or Patrick Willis. Seriously, I wouldn;t mind seeing them take Akoye, and trade back into the first (offering 2 seconds and a thrid) to take Willis! We would still have our own second round pick to take the best corner available, our 3rd round pick to take Drew Stanton, and our fourth round pick for some depth at free safety!
Could you imagine Patrick Willis, Amobi Akoye, Ernie Sims, and Corey Redding in two years playing the Tampa-2? Sounds like cornbread to me!

...just doin some math.
One... Tampa Bay really wants to draft Calvin Johnson.. plus
Two... Detroit loves Patrick Willis and Gaines Adams.... plus
Three .. Houston at # 10 needs more picks AND they need a receiver..
Picks Value Board Lions #2=2600, Tampa #4=2000, Houston #10=1300, Detroit (2nd Round)#34=560, Tampa #35=550
Lions could theoretically trade with Tampa and draft Gaines Adams at 4.
They could then couple their 2nd round pick with Tampa's 2nd round pick (550+560 = 1110) and trade for Houston's #10 pick (1300) if they trow in Mike Williams. At number ten they can draft Patrick Willis!
DANG! I wish I were GM!! ;)

He lacks the sand in his pants to face up to the bigger offensive tackles, and needs to improve his size and strength for the next level … ..from nfl draft..negatives........thats the way i see this PANSY..now let him go play in europe or canada.....his skinny calves alone will have him sitting out more games than he will ever play

So if Calvin Johnson happened to become rookie of the year....
Good pick, or bad pick?
Is the only thing that can make this a good pick is to see the Lions with at least a 500 record or what?

I would guess Barry Sanders or Billy Sims?
I can't see Sanders as NOT being rookie of the year though.

Barry came in a year or two before Emmit if memory serves me correct. At the time, Christian Okeye of KC won the NFL rushing record because Barry sat out on the 4th quarter of the last game and didn't want to go back in just to pick up a few more yards to win the rushing title.
