Does anyone fish the Muskegon River near Houghton Lake? I have been told there are Brookies. Does the entire stretch of river hold trout? Any recommendations... www.geocities.com/river_walleye (http://www.geocities.com/river_walleye)

Never tried it up that far. I have always fished the big water below the dam around Newago.

I have not fished the Muskegon in that area, but, have fished a couple of "creeks" in that general vicinity that hold nice numbers of BIG brookies.. I was amazed at the size the first time I fished that area.

MIBow,what do you mean by "BIG" { you have me drooling over this, as I am looking for that elusive 18" stream Brookie for the wall }.

The Mo near Houghton Lake is rumored to have some brookie action, but I'll tell ya between my father and I we have fished that area a zillion times and have never once caught a trout! It is loaded with Pike, Specs, bass and a few walleye amongst other warm water species. Try a beetle spin w/steel leader!
HMMMMM, The nearest creek that holds big brookies..... The Ausable is the closest that I can think of, but there is another river within a half hour or so that I have landed several brookies in the 17-18" range. I bet that's the one MIBow is talking about.
:) I'm not telling!
