This year I thought I would try something different than dropping the boat in Muskegon Lake for the opener. My college roommate is flying up from Florida for the festivities and my usual opening day partner lives near Traverse City and was planning on coming down. Well…the wife put a kibosh on the idea of having not one, but two of my friends for a long weekend and suggested that we go camp somewhere. Too cold for a guy from FL to tent camp so we decided on a rental cabin near Manistee.
I will have boat in tow and usually open water troll a variety of cranks for pike/walleye. I plan on trying Manistee and Portage Lakes.
Any additional info or preference between the two lakes? And how much does it cost to launch on Portage at Onekama Park? Exact change in an envelope or do they have someone there to collect?
