Please excuse my ignorance asking this question. I'm just getting in to trapping.

I got a really good deal on some K-9 traps I got some #2 professional Victors, 1 3/4 Victor Offsets, #2 Victor Offset, 1.65 bridger laminated, 1.65 bridger regular, 1 3/4 victor reg, 1.5 monts.

ALL traps have Paws - I - Trips pans. Whats the best way to figure out trap sizes and models when the pan that usually tells you the size and mfg. is missing?

Kev,

Sounds like you got a good variety of traps.

Based on your list of the makes and sizes of traps, they should all have about same jaw spread when set.

Obiviously the 1.5's are going to have the smallest jaw spread and the 2's are going to have the widest jaw spread. But different brands of traps have different actual jaw spread, even for traps labeled #2 or #1.75.

If you are targeting fox, then any of your traps will do just fine! The 1.5 and 1.65 might be a little small for use in catching large coyotes, but I have caught plenty of coyotes with 1.5's. However, for targeting coyotes it is better to set a 1.75 or larger.

It is great that you are getting involved in trapping and I know you will enjoy every minute of your Trapping Adventures!

Just a reminder. Be sure to always double stake your K-9 traps or use cable anchors. A single rerod stake will not hold coyotes, even if it is over 24" long.
