Anyone have a recent report on flyfishing the White? I've heard of good numbers of fish in. Any single best fly? Thanks.

The steelhead fishing has been excellent with egg fly, spring wrigglers, and green nymphs. The annual slaughter of the big walleye female brood stock also went well this year with the DNR's extension of the walleye season from end of February to March 15 to leave the spawners unprotected. Renegade steelheaders have had a great time ethnically cleaning the walleye from their river. The local biologist told the WLASA fishing association he doesn't care and closed down the local walleye hatchery that had been operating since 1982 to restore the native walleye fishery to White Lake. This will help reduce the walleye population so the steelheaders can have the river to themselves. Enjoy the great fishing.

I hope that you are the Hamilton that I communicated with via e-mail a couple of years ago. Sorry that things aren't working to the betterment of your river. Sometimes you just scratch your head and wonder "WHY?". But as long as there is water and fish there is, eventually, hope. That river up towards the dam has a reputation, and not a favorable one. Alot of unsportsmanlike activities occuring, unchecked. I'd like for you to know that me and my cell phone will be up there this weekend.

I fish the White 3-4 times a week during the peak time every year. I fish from wash out down to where the N.Branch dumps in. Every year I pray those big hen Walleye don't run early, but this year I did not pray hard enough once agian. It's not that I don't mind seeing a few 10+ pounders on the stringers, but 3,4,5,6 oh man it get's worse. Day after day local so called fisherman (I now em better as snaggers) butcher the hens, all you need is some shape trebs and a touch of yarn. D.N.R try, and do ticket some, but the White gets really wild below Podunk. Next year I hope the go back to the end of Feb. for closing the walleye season. Even though I don't fish White Lake for Walleye, and really don't fish them much at all, I can not stand to think of the knife's that cut the bellies on those huge pig's. But just ask them locals up there, they taste great, yum,yum on the grill. It is some what of a relief to know it over...for the real fishermen it is. It's open year round to them proud hen drag'en sport fisherman. Enjoy it, while we got it...

I dont even bother fishing this time of year on the White anymore. My fishing partner lives on the White, and I STILL dont bother. It is too bad.
