I recently bought a boat and am looking for a new graph to install. I was looking at the lowrance LMS520, but then wondering if I should get a seperate graph and gps. Any suggestions would be great.

So you already KNOW where I'm at on this - now just WAIT for the "critters" to come out of the woodwork and start slingin' the opinions!!!
A separate GPS and Sonar is a chunk of money - unless you get two $99 cheapies...... and I BET that's NOT what you want!

Not to rain on anyones parade, but if You have a "combo" unit and it craps out on You on the water - You're SOL. I prefer stand alone units (with Murphys Law in the back of My mind) for that reason. C-man

TRUE.
I have an Lowrance LMS332c on the left and a HumminBird 787c2 on the right.....

I run the Lowrance full-screen sonar W/ time & speed overlay data and the 'Bird is setup as a standalone plotter.... I orginally had plans for two 332's , but COJ (http://www.cojmag.com/pagecontent.asp?ID=10)was kind 'nuff to pull my name outta the hat....

I think they're drawing in a few days for a 797c2 and currently it's a 'Kota 101LB Terrova US2... not to HiJack the thread.....

Is it just me....I can't see any difference between the LMS 520 c and the
LMS 332 or 334 c's, other than the fact the the 520 is "new for 2007" and it's a lot more money. Some stores are blowing out the 332 and 334's for good prices. Why not just get one of those instead?

JJM ,
The 520's have 3000 Hydro Maps built in - the '332 does NOT - and good luck actually FINDING one!!!
Cabela's has been OUT for a few months now.
:evilsmile
Pricewise they are 'the same' as the '332 was - $649 min. ad. price ....

Unless you have a bowmounted graph, handheld gps, and fixed compass. ;)

Ah... the venerable compass. I'm amazed at how many "seasoned" boaters don't have a clue how to use a compass. I learned to navigate as a kid using a compass... both on land and water. My dad may not have been a fisherman, but he was a sailer and a hiker and made sure I knew how to use a compass!!
But, I do have a hand held GPS... two graphs... binoculars... etc....

Did you decide if you were keeping the Gimble Mounted Garmin Mike?

Garmin? You mean my 162? No idea yet.... I'd really like to get rid of both my 72 hand held and my 162 plotter and get a mapping unit that can be updated with maps of inland lakes.
Then again... I like having the hand held for car trips... snowmobiling... using on other peoples boats... etc...
