he says they have to many "sweeties" an not enough muscle, says the only way they can beat Flames is if they get a "sweetie " referee, cause they don't have enough players willing to do the dirty work in the corners, now with Bertuzzi banged up might be time for them to be calling for tee times:( :fish:

He also said that there are a LOT of empty seats during games at the Joe that were filled when Kocer and Probert were in the line up.

while Grapes tends to have a flair for the dramatic or to say the outlandish, his take pretty much sums up why I did not want to play the Flames in the first round. Wings in 7.

Especially in the lower bowl,,, lot's of "corporate seats" that no one shows up for.
Did I just hear,, Bertuzzi-out(concussion)?? Ouch,,,,,,,,:( . I'm thinking of recanting my prediction in the other Wings thread.

and there are tickets available for sale less than 24 hours before game time. unusual for playoff hockey in hockeytown. but $126 a seat ain't exactly a bargain for round one. i'll watch it at home intently, maybe splurge on several expensive beers with all that money i'm saving.
Wings in 5 games and 35 beers. 37 with a couple overtimes.

The problem with the NHL is that the regular season officiating and the playoff officiating are completely different animals.
Teams like the Wings who've been build on skill and speed the last decade roll through the regular season because the zebras are actually calling hooking, obstruction, etc. When the playoffs roll around teams find suddenly they aren't getting whistles when they put a couple of goons on the blue line and do everything possible to hook, clutch, grab, and obstruct players trying to enter their end of the ice. I'm not saying the team wasn't responsible for many of their early round losses in recent years, but the officiating DEFINITELY played a role. It's like the NHL decides they're going to let them "settle it on the ice", which in reality just gives less skilled teams a chance at an upset. When they're allowing that kind of stuff to go on all it takes is a goalie to get a little hot and it's easy to steal a series.
On a side note, the NBA does the same thing. We all saw Dwayne Wade get the MJ treatment against the Pistons last year. He could charge into the lane, jumping and backwards falling into a defender adn they'd send him to the line. It got to the point most of our guys weren't even playing defense anymore because even the most incidental contact (initiated by Wade) resulted in him going to the line.

:yeahthat: I agree 100%!
It sure is disheartening to see such a difference in officiating from the reg season to the playoffs. Not to mention how different it can be from game to game, series to series.
If we lose this series, you can almost guarantee offciating (or lack thereof) will have played a role. I heard on the way into work this morning, someone on Calgary's team talking how to take home ice advantage away fromt he Wings. He said soemthing along the lines of... we want to make it rough, physical game, but stay out of the box, and get an "ugly-win".
Not saying there is anything wrong with what he is saying, just that, IMO, officiating will play a major role in this series.
We will see. Can't wait!
Lets GO RED WINGS!!! :woohoo1:

The Pittsburg game was called way to tight yesterday. First period 2 bush league 5 on 3's awarded to Ottawa. What a joke. Let them play.

Tight officiating will favor the Wings.
I don't want to see ticky-tack stuff being called, but hooking and obstruction needs to be called the same in the playoffs as it was all year. In previous years they stopped calling that altogether.

Your right, they did not win the cup with Joey and Bobby. But they sure were fun to watch. And in my opinion if we had some people like them in the last few years, Stevie might still be playing. He took more hits and abuse in his last couple of years than the rest of his carrer combined. GO WINGS!!!!!!!
