Seems like this unit has a lot of features for the price. I am thinking either this unit or a humminbird 787c2.

Humminbird has the option of a "quadrabeam transducer", it seems like a good system. It also has a 16 channel gps, but I dont know the difference between a 16 and 12 channel.

Eagle is cheaper? which unit is better? I will be using it all over the great lakes as well as inland lakes in Indiana and Michigan.

I've had both, Humminbird and Eagle. I like my humminbird hands down. Take into consideration however that I had an Eagle 320DF and jumped to a 900 series humminbird. All the same, the price of my Eagle was inviting however you get what you pay for in my opinion.
As far as 12 channel versus 16. I seem to keep a lock where ever I using my GPS(12 channel).

Not really an advantage with a 16 channel unit as rarely are there even 12 satellites "visable" above the horizon in any one location on the earth.

Go with the 787c2 - it'll probably last longer than the Eagle - seems the Eagles are built less durable than the Lowrance brand & I like my 787c2 and so does bigbob here!

Eagle and Lowrance units are manufactured by the same company (12000 Skully Drive, Tulsa, OK). I would have to guess that price determines the quality/function of what you get.

I have never used either brand for electronics, so I cannot speak as to the quality of any of their products.

I know that Steve - I used to run a warranty staion for them in '82.
I've owned both and the Eagles are stripped down versions......
Keep pluckin' components off the mainboard until it quits & then put back the last part ya took off!!
