Well peeps it starts Thursday. I can't wait, this is my favorite sports playoff system. I think the Wings will handle the Flames in 5-6. Hank's on his way back, they say even with him being out as long as he's been he's still the best player in practice. I'm not saying they'll take the Flames easy, should make for great run. Any way I can b.s. forever about this. LET'S GET THE FREAKING GAME STARTED!!! Good luck boys and thanks for a great regular season. Let's hear your thoughts!!!

I think that I would have rather seen the Wings start off with Colorado first, but that's the way things fall. I am a huge wings fan, but the past couple of years have me alittle worried. I really think that the first couple of games will be a good indicator to the way things will go for the Wings.

Calgary hasn't changed much except for more balanced scoring, which led to more goals this year, but the Wings defense and goaltending is dramatically better than the last time they faced each other. Don't take them lightly, Kipper is still a very good goalie, but their defense is overrated. A healthy Zetterberg and hopefully Bertuzzi and I think they will take the series, but the Flames will win a few.

Should be interesting.

Anyone else think the Wings shelved Hank for rest more than injury?

Anyone seen what stations are covering the playoffs? I saw that CBC and Versus is covering it but any locals like 50 (WB?) Channel 2 or Foxsports?

some of u guys are sadly underminding the wings this post season... and no, this first few games will not show hot the post season will go for them. take 2002 1st round they where down 2 games to none to van and came back to win it. who cares about past years wa wa wa... this is this year and they have what it takes this year. i say wings in 6 game 1 and 2 gam 5 and 6.

i will say there will be no first round sweep. but if it does happen, the most likely sears sweep would be buffalo over the islanders.

heres my predictions.

wings/flames = wings in 6
ducks/wild = (going out on a limb here) wild in 7
canucks/stars = stars in 6
preds/sharks = sharks in 6

sabers/islanders = sabers in 5
devils/lightning = devils in 6
thrashers/rangers = rangers in 7
senators/penguins = pen's in 6(but im cheering for the sen's)

thats the first round prediction... last year i was waaaaaaaaaaay off but no one expected the first 4 seeds to be out in round one.

I'm actually not a huge wings fan so I can look at the series objectively without any "emotion" playing into my opinion. The Wings will have no problem whatsoever with Calgary,, I'll be very surprised if the Flames win one game. The only "wild-card" in this series is Kipper,,, if he stands on his head like Giggy did a few years back,, they might win a game or 2. With all that said,, this Stanley Cup will be the biggest "coin flip" in a while,,, lots of strong teams this year.

Wings in 5. Calgary is going to be a pretty tough matchup, but I don't think it is anything the Wings can't handle. Heck they might even take them in 4. Man I can't wait for Thursday!

I think the Wings will have there hands full again. Calgary is a physical team. IMHO the Wings did not do enough to "toughen" up. By games 3-4 our guys will be pretty banged up and more concerned about that next hit coming than controling the puck.

Plus I am still not sure Hank will be suited up for the series.

The Flames are the one team I didn't want to see in the first round. They are very solid defensively, have great goaltending and are big and physical. There will be few goals in the series, all close 1-2 goal games. It probably will come down to powerplays. If the Wings can convert 1 PP goal a game, they win the series. Hopefully they can get by the Flames and someone else knocks off the Sharks, those are the only teams that scare me in the West. In the East, Buffalo and New Jersey would be the only two teams I see any difficulty with.

There is no such thing as a tie in the Playoffs. No shoot out. No 4 on 4.

It is straight 5 on 5 hockey till somebody scores in overtime. If it takes 6 overtime periods for somebody to score then it takes that long.

 Yikes,,,,, I think if the Wings coulda picked who they would want to play in the first round,, they woulda picked Dallas hands down,, but a close second probably woulda been Calgary(even though they bounced 'em out a couple years ago),,, Calgary doesn't have that same "Darryl Sutter" type team. Honestly,, EVERY team outta the west scares me with the exception of Calgary. Fisheater is just downplaying it,,, he knows the Wings will sweep the Flames or lose one game,, maybe.:D

I'm sorry bro, you know me and how much I love this team. Everyone here knows that I'm a winged wheeled fan of the greatest sports franchise in the history of the world, and I'm well connected. However, this is just what I feel. Something tells me we get bounced 1st round. Believe me, it breaks my heart and I pray to God I'm wrong, but I just don't see "it" with this squad. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something with this Red Wing team that tells me "Not a playoff team". I don't see how we match up against Kipper, Iginla, Huselius, Tangauy, Phaneuf, Warrener, Regehr, Stuart, Conroy, and company. Those cats played in a tough tough tight division all year. They got beat up, and beat up on equally competitive teams. Meanwhile, we racked up our points against Chicago, St. Louis and Columbus (Although not as many points against the Jackets).

Flames in 6.:(

Yeah, cuz Bert has looked like just a royal stud so far. Good thing he's not playing hurt already.

This time of year, every team has something to prove. The "old school" guys has nothing to do with it. Calgary has something to prove, Kipper has something to prove. What? So your saying that this year is different than last year for the Wings. That, last year they didn't have "something to prove"?:dizzy:

Oh, and how could I forget the rest of the gang and our matchup problems....Daymond Langkow, Lombardi, Tony Amonte, Roman Hamrlik, Stephen Yelle and Wayne Primeau. Those are gritty, grind it out 1 on 1 board (not Amonte so much) battle players. How many players do we have like that. Maybe 3? 4 tops. And Dom hasn't looked right since returning from injury.:tdo12:

Whichever team has the hot goaler will win. How many times have the wings run into that guy that has a career series. God help them if the Wings get into the 3rd period with a 1 goal lead as well, man I hate seeing the "d" break down and let in the floater to tie up the game. Regular season was a dead heat between the two, even so I say Wings in 7. :dizzy:

The biggest thing I came out of this game with was the fact that Wings really, really want it. They played their heart out. Smothering D, outstanding up front, and maybe most importantly they didn't take any crap from the Flames. In fact they dished it out in king sized portions. I know it is only one game, but I saw something from the Wings last night that I haven't seen since 02... Desire! If they keep this drive there is no telling what they can do. I know that Calgary is not going to lay down and give it to them, but again for the first time since 02 it looks like the Wings want it more than the team they are playing.

We never let them in the game and kept playing hard. Nice to see the youngsters get the playing time and be productive. And yes, like someone earlier (redwingsdude?) stated, I can't stand Iginla. What a baby! For someone who is supposed to be a star, a captain, a leader, act like a man! Definately makes you appreciate even more, and realize even more how lucky and spoiled we were with Mr. One-Nine. He would've never acted like such a stuck up whiner when someone like Hank took the puck from him. Same with Senior. Who is now becoming known around the league as the Swedish Yzerman. He would never act like that. The guy outplayed you and picked your pocket Jarome. Play harder and deal with it! Don't be face-washin and cheap shottin a player like Hank cuz your not getting your way! Argh! I would love to see a big balled up fist right smack into the nose and/or chin of Jarome. Sorry fellas, but he really irked me game 1. Same with Phaneuf. With that head whiplash punch on Hank right before the Iginla whining. Both of them need to be picking some lumber/composite outta their teeth before this series is over.

Game 2 predictions. There is no way the Red Wings will win Game 2. I don't give a crap if the hockey gods can read this or not. They can shove it. You hear me hockey gods? In fact, I say that it's impossible for the Calgary Flames to LOSE game 2!

Game 2 predictions. There is no way the Red Wings will win Game 2. I don't give a crap if the hockey gods can read this or not. They can shove it. You hear me hockey gods? In fact, I say that it's impossible for the Calgary Flames to LOSE game 2!

Looks like Bert is out for at least one more game. I was REALLY hoping to see him out there tomorrow. That whiplash, punch, cheapshot... whatever you want to call it, by Phaneff bothered the crap out of me too. I mean seriously what the heck was that. Bunch of freaking hacks.

Nice pic of the Gordie statue. It was great to walk through the doors of JLA and see that looking you in the face.

First period, game 2. Looking good, i'm glad things settled down a bit, as much as like the wings scoring, an early blowout would have ended up with some injured banged up players.

That should be all that it will take. I will be thrilled to see them get one out there and then come home to clinch round 1!

I would say the NHL is letting everyone know how the playoffs are going to be called.

Luckily for us their using Calgary as an example.

Ryan

 Ya know,, I actually kinda feel bad for Calgary,,,,,, because NONE of the other series are being called this way. There are "some" ticky-tack" calls in the other games but NOTHING like the Wings series. One thing for sure though,,, Calgary is,,, well,,,, not good. Only chance they had was for Kipper to stand on his head,, and he is. These games easily coulda been 10-1. I blame this on on Sutter,,, he should fired the coach and took over behind the bench, ala Pat Quinn(back in the day). At least they woulda "looked decent" getting beat.

OK guys let's say Bert plays game 3 in Calgary, who should sit. I keep hearing Hud's I'll throw these names out LANG & Sammy...... Lang has done zero, zilch, nodda he can't even win a face off. My son and I were watching the game and I kept telling him watch Lang he never touches anybody only his stick does. He's got no B---s!!! I hate to say it but he makes good money and it's time he sits. My son was laughing after watch what I told him about Lang and he agreed with me. Let's hear your thoughts.......... I think we'll steal one in Calgary and be in good shape. Still looks a college team VS a pro team.

"Stealing" implies taking something that does not belong to you. Unless the flames pull out something they haven't shown so far, Detroit owns the series and NOt winning in Calgary would be the suprise. I don't know Calgary's home ice record, offhand, but I don't THINK home ice is real huge for them, at least not against superior teams. As far as sitting someone down, my only question would be which decision would be of the most help for the second round.

Calgary is 2nd to the Wings in Home ice record. It means a bundle to them. Maybe 'steal' isn't the right word, but I sure hope we take game 3, cuz if not game 4 is a must win, IMO.

As far as who ya sit. It's tough to break up that 4th line with how they have been playing. I'd agree with Lang, but thats just not gonna happen. Apparantly Babcock sees something I just don't understand. The guy is hard to watch. Just once I'd like to see him lay a hit, or back check with some intesity. And stop coughing up the eff'ing puck! I'm really looking forward to the day he's no longer a Wing.

But they need to find Bert a place. He was not acquired to be healthy scratch, and if he can be the tool needed to protect us from some of those cheap shots, then he's worth it.

Of course, all we really need is fish eater's opinion and prediction and we should be all set for a 4 game sweep. ;)

Not sure if anyone noticed or not but,,, Draper and Maltby were "rarely" on the ice together yesterday. Babcock really shuffled up the lines yesterday(I think he talked with Bowman on one of the days off). Bertuzzi needs to get his "playoff legs" going,, but it wouldn't surprise me if he got some more rest. I'd like to see Bert out there,,,,, it's funny watching other players "avoid" him when he's on the ice:lol:. If I had to guess,,,, I'd say Hudler will be in plain clothes when Bertuzzi comes back.

Calgary is tough to beat at the Saddledome, and its going to be LOUD and intense there Tues. night, I dont have a lot of hope for game 3, my thought is the Wings will pull out a close one in game four and wrap up the series in game 5.

Dont count chickens yet though cause with a little less officiating this series could easily be tied up going into game 5.

I would bet the GM from Calgary has been on the horn all day today with the NHL Questioning the amount of penalty mins against Calgary and although I think the calls have been pretty good, I would bet they will complain enough and you'll see less calls in game 3 and 4.

uhhhhh why would he be on the phone and why would we see less calls? the wings where playing good clean hockey, the flames where sloppy, deprate and willing. not a single penalty they took was questionable. not a single one. and i very fair when it comes to that. if any one should be on the phone it should be kenny holland about mcgoo and that crap call on datzuk. shoulda been on holmer not pavs. if the reffing lightens up because sutter crys about it... i blame u:lol:

Dont blame me for anything:) like I said I think all the calls were pretty good, and I also agree that Calgary played close to sloppiest NHL playoff period i've ever seen and deserved everything they got, all i'm saying is enough complaining sometimes has an effect.

You have to know genaral mangagers complain to the NHL. Brian Burke (I beleive with anaheim now) is the captain of the GM boo-hoooers.

Its going to hard to prove my point because obviously one of Calgary's main focus's for game 3-4 are going to be staying out the box so calls are going to go down(do a stat check on Calgary PM's for games 1-2 vs. 3-4), but if you watch game 3-4 I would bet your going to see slightly more tolerant officiating.

You don't get it, do you? Oh well. We won't accuse you of being clever.:dizzy:

So, with that being said. There is in no way, that the Calgary Flames will lose both games at home, in the comfort of the Saddledome. I mean, that is absolutely impossible. In fact, right here in front of all the hockey gods, I can guarentee, that the Calgary Flames WILL NOT lose both games at home, in the Saddledome! There is just no way in hell. So put that in your pipe and smoke it Hockey Gods!:cheeky-sm
