What kind & what LB test do you guys use??
Lord knows I've quizzed a few folks here via PM or in person.... now's the time to make your case & state the reasons you choose your weapons and why you think it's a good choice. (or NOT)
;)
I've got one Baitcaster W/ a 6'6" MH IM7 rod spooled with Stren Super Braid 30# test to push the big girls around when needed. Also a MH IM7 Shimano Clarus 6'6" Spinning rig with 20# Stren Super Braid , I chose the Stren braid mostly B/C I'm a cheapskate & I got it on clearance for 5$/125YD spool!

Some 14LB for a Medium IM6 Cabela's spinning stick too.
Besides Pure Fishing owns Stren (Berkley) , I might use PowerPro if my buddy Tim hooks me up with some.
:fish2:
LOL

I still have a few THOUSAND YDs of Yo-Zuri Hybrid Flouro for some of my other rigs - so I'll be using that for at least a few more years!
:)

CHEERS!

If I use a braid i use a 6-8 lb fireline on spinning gear, 7ft IM6. DON'T HORSE 'EM! :p I like using my drag. Anything over 8 for walleye takes the fun out of it! I guess im just a dare :evilsmile

8lb fireline is a little different then 8lb mono though! Also depends on what kinda fishin you're talkin about.

Funny you should ask, I'm spoolin' up right now...10/4 Fireline Crystal.

Why? It worked great both last fall and through the ice. It's the first braid I've really felt confident about without a leader in clear water conditions.

Hey JJ, were you using that crystal fireline last fall pullin/longlining cranks? If you were, did it really work that well? The past few years I've been pullin em on 10 XT, but this year I'm kicking around tryin that crystal if I could get away with it without a leader. I plan on changing all my hooks to triple grips for braids anyway, so why not?:dizzy::lol:

For verticle jigging, 8lb. flame green Fireline goes on My spinning and baitcaster reels. For nitetime flatline Ninja runs - 14lb. Smoke Fireline does the job. 14lb. flame green also does well on My pitching outfit for Smallies, while 20lb. goes on the Flipping combo. C-man

Robert, I use 20lb fire for pullin bouncers and a mono leader when I am pulling cranks. Jiggin is something I don't do much of, but I use 8lb fireline as well and tie on a mono leader.

For planer board/trolling rods, I've been running 30/8 power pro the last few years. I also use a 10 or 12 lb flourocarbon leader.

Hey Robert, are any of those reels the ones I gave ya? I normally use 4lbs/1lbs dia. with a flouro. leader. Why, thats just the way I fish. Longer casting, less drag on the current and wind. Ive used the smoke and crystal fireline and haven't had any problems with it other than the normal fraying from useing it so much. Although i'm thinking of using some heavier line for the summer fishing. And by the way I just got home with the new toy!!:D :D :D

Chris just got a 16' DeepV Sylvan!

I spooled the Pinnacle Inertia with the 30# ~~
I was going to ask you what kinda line you had on the LH Baitcasters you gave me.... looks like it's in pretty good shape yet. The older one (EX501) has rust on the magnets inside (probably from storing in a damp basement?) but the other ones (CL401CX) work fine & are in good shape. I'll probably put some #14 Stren Super Braid on them since I have between 5-8 spools of it.
;)
Maybe I should have you check on those old rods - I'm thinkin' about USING the one I bought to hang in the bedroom!!
LOL!

i'm a fan of the 14# fireline... it handles everything and last forever... i do mostly walleye fishing but when i get that occational pike i got nothing to worry about... I have never lost a fish due to the line on the 14# fireline and that includes several pike with no leader..... NOCK ON WOOD:rolleyes:

I like the Power pro over the fireline, and at night do not use any leader. It's round, not flat and digs into the spool less, and stays clipped in the planer boards when I use them. I generally use the 30# / 8# diameter because that's what I have spooled and it is pretty close to the 10# used on most of the dive charts. I also like 30# better for casting since I can usually untie the knots that come up, where the thinner diameter stuff cannot usually be untied in the dark and needs to be cut. Once the line is used a while it gets smooth and supple and casts a mile. I have not lost a lure in 5 years using the 30# either and have caught quite a few fish on it.

That said I will try a smaller diameter on a trolling rod, maybe 15-20# next fall to get a little more action on my bait while slow trolling. A great match for any braided line is the Mustad Triple Grips. I used them almost exclusively last fall and almost never lost a fish. Careful they are sharp and stick to everything.

I'm having trouble finding Power Pro in anything betwee their 10 and 20 lb. I'd like some 15 lb... but so far no luck finding any locally.

Tim ,
The Stren braid is pretty round -n- tight. I am going to have to break it in - ESOX said it takes a few hundred casts to get braid (PP) working well - and I spooled the 30# on the baitcaster for the reason(s) you mentioned.

Mike , doesn't the outdoorsman have it?? How about D!ck's in ktwd or gvl??

No braid for me this year at least not to start.
A few new rods and reels and the braid will now have to wait.
Everybody runs braid nowadays but not sure its always necessary.
