My Father-in-law and I hit the AuSable last weekend. Popped the camper up at Keystone late Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. There was a consistent hendrickson hatch starting at about 10AM each day and continuing all day only varying in hatch size.
On Saturday, I fished primarily grey hendricksons all day. I tried the black caddis but to no avail. Rises were few and far between even when the hatch was in full swing. Guys were beating the water hard. Passing me faster than most of the people in canoes. Most of them had nothing spectacular to report. My best luck was sitting on the bank enjoying a cold one until I saw a fish rising, carefully set the beer down, cast 3 feet in front of the rise and BAM. This is the only way I caught anything on Saturday and I ended up with 6 pretty good fish.
On Sunday, fished Keystone again with for all practical purposes a repeat of Saturday. Tossed a grey hendrickson up by a log where a fish was rising.....drifted through and ended up pulling out a 14" brookie. It was a beautiful fish and it really made my day. I ended up Sunday with eight catches.
All in all the weather was good and so was the company. We both had a great time on the river and off.

No pics. It's alway when you think you won't catch anything worth snappin' a shot of that you leave the camera at home. I have a problem with that. I need to program myself to ALWAYS bring it.

Maxemus,
Keystone is a State Forest campground about 4 miles east of Grayling on M72. (There are signs) It has a good primitive campground and access to the river in multiple locations. No reservations are required, just drop your money in the box. Outhouses are there, no showers and no electric.
Another option is Canoe Harbor on the Mason Tract. (About 4-5 miles futher east.)
The Fly shop in Grayling and Gates AuSable lodge @Stephans Bridge have good information relative to the hatch and I'm sure they'd like to sell you a few flies while their at it.

Good Luck!:D
