So here i am, respooling my accudepth 27lcs for my walleye rods. Im spooling it up with 12 pound test Pline. I get my first one spooled up, walk away, and hear a looud pop. GO back and look, the spool exploded on me. So im a little annoyed. So it wont happen again im sure. I start on reel number 2. Get it spooled up, and pop...that one crushed. Ive got 4 more reels to go, but i dont even know if im going to waste my time...they might just go in the garbage. When i bought them 3 years ago i heard they "might" have drag issues, so while walleye arent really drag burning machines, i took my chance. Yikes.

Any other inexpensive reel replacemnt suggestions, or should i just break the bank and order 6 27 lcas?

from what i hear the new accudepth plus series is basically what the old sealine sg27lc's were. they are a bit cheaper than the sg27lca (though those are sweet reels).

Termie,

Soak your line in water for five minutes prior to spooling your reels, it will reset the the memory so to speak. Line sits on the shelf at the store or in your home for a long time it can get quite brittle. Also do not spool it too tightly when holding the line with your fingers and reeling. This helps me a lot hope it cures your problems.

I have a couple of the new acudepth plus reels and using them for browns and I dont see any difference from my sg27lc's. I have never run the old style acudepth's but I have not heard good things about them. My son picked up the acudept plus reels for me at cabelas and the price was very reasonable.

Buy the last reels youll ever need and get the Daiwas Sealines. They are probably the most popular reel on the Great Lakes. They have a proven track record by many an angler. And they have an anodized aluminum spool that will solve your crushing problems. If you going to use these reels for walleyes only, you can go with the SG17LCA's, they hold 250 yds of 12# line, but the 27's are also a popular choice.

Good luck with your purchase.:)
