If you want to get the whole trip done for less than $800 then you need a drive-in camp not a fly-in. The camp I go to every summer is about 8 hours past the Soo and is about $800 for the whole trip.

On second thought, do you know of a camp where lodging and boat are included for a week for much less than $800?

I've heard good things about:

http://www.lochisland.com/

I went to this camp once, it is about 2 hours from the Soo but honestly the fishing didn't live up to what I expect from a Canadian fishing camp:

I think hidden river is more in your price range though.

You said you went somewhere within 4 hours of the Soo. Were you satisfied with that camp? I'm curious to know which one it is and what you thought of it.

ok so here is the deal... there is one week open that i can book at this place and i dont mean to an ahole or anything but i cant book it for sure for at least a couple days so like i said i dont mean to be an a@#hole but i will tell you the name in a couple day

the more i hear the more i like this place it is at least half the price of everything i have heard on here

the accomidations were fantastic... and i would definatly recamend it... but the only thing i must critize it for is that the fishing was not like what i have seen on tv in the past... that is why i am considering other places i want to get a different ontario experience... other than that it was great and we did catch fish... the boats are not anything special(14foot naden with 9.9 merc'reliable' no troling motor) and it was kinda different cause you did not just stay on one lake... there were several lakes within about a half hours drive that you could take a boat to... and infact the best fishing we found was on a different lake... one of the lakes we went to was just none stop pike action but they were all under 28 in. but i mean every i mean every single cast was a small pike... like i said the lodging was great tho and they also do bear hunts(we seen a few while we were there)

my family and i stayed at moose horn lodge in Chapleau, Ontario a few years back. really nice place to stay. we fished for pike the whole time and the action was nonstop but there wasnt much size to them. we did manage a couple walleye but we didnt really target them. also we did see a couple moose and a few bears. overall it was a really nice trip

has anyone stayed at loch island ? My father-in-law booked us a trip there in august, and I was looking for some reviews, good or bad.

I went to ontario last august. We stayed at a lodge in chapleau called five mile lake lodge. We fished mostly for pike but there is a lot of walleye in the lake. Also, there are a ton of lakes around there, and you can rent a boat and take to. The rates were cheap and it included a boat and motor.

Here is a location that might meet your requirements. The owners are a young couple (he is an OPP officer). Cottages are 1,2, or 3 bedroom. Boats are Lund 14' Deep V with 9.9 mercs. Moon River Bay is part of the great water system that includes Georgian Bay and finishes in Lake Huron. A couple of pics in my photos are of Sunset Cottages - early morning (incl boat dock). Massive waterway with every species available. Certainly worth consideration. In a week late last June, our best day was 23 in one boat (4 boats total). Even found a small Island where we got into about 10 Pike - named the Island after me.

Depth finders and GPS highly recommended. There are some VERY LARGE boulders.

Roughly 3 hours North of Toronto just outside MacTeir. Essentially a 6-7 hour drive from Port Huron.

arcticcatet71 -- My experience in Canada has been that the more remote camps have better fishing due to much lower fishing pressure. The drawback is that more remote places are a longer drive and are more expensive. It sounds like you've already found the best camp that's in your price range.

I think the legend and lore of Canadian fishing can sometimes be exagerated. I consider good Canadian fishing to be a camp that can offer a limit of 15"-18" walleye each day with an occassional 20"+ walleye. In addition, I would expect to catch and release 5-6 pike per day with maybe one about 28" or better.

In my opinion, Canadian fishing is as much about the pristine wilderness as it is about the fishing. If I just wanted to pile up walleyes all summer long, I'd never leave Lake Erie but if you want to describe your fishing location by something other than which smoke stack or factory you're fishing by then Canada has something to offer. And for some reason, beer just tastes better up there.

Summarized perfectly IMO. If you want sore arms, bring a very thick wallet. That's where they make "the TV" shows.

I've been to 5 Mile many times. The place was run by a lazy couple back in 97-03 and the currrent owners are much better than the last ones. If pike is what you want, that lake has LOTS of them, the Walleye are a little trickier to catch. That lake also has some Smallies in it. The big cabin runs $1115cnd/wk for 4 guys, but sleeps 6 or so. Another good place up there is Chapleau lodge. GREAT cabins, with electric, walleyes and smallies a plenty, I'm still trying to figure out where all the pike are. The lake is 13 miles long, spring fed and about 130' in some places. It holds lake trout, whitefish, smallies, walleyes and pike.

I'll be at Chapleau lodge this year 11AUG-17AUG, Bob runs a good lodge there, it's clean, the cabins are fairly new and updated. The boats are nice with 9.9 Yamahas that start all the time.

My only two compalints about 5 mile is that they have those 16' HEAVY steel boats and run 9.9o/b on them, NOT enough power with a couple of guys in them and the propane lights make the cabins pretty hot with a few guys playing cards in them. But, they are REALLY inexpensive and if you know the area you can rent a couple of smaller boats and go down some fireroads and get to some really good pike lakes.

If you really want a good trip in canada I would try the erieau area you can rent a cabin on lake erie and there are alot of fish there from trolling for steelhead and walleye to bass fishin and its only about one hour or two from the boarder. Last summer we limited out everyday in about three hours even won the tourny for the steelhead. There is also mitchells bay you can try there I am not sure what fish you are fishin for. Randy

I have to agree with DTG. CHAPLEAU LODGE, one of the best places I have been to up there so far. Bob and Sally are real good people, treat you very well.

But, Chris the guy that takes care of the boats is one of the best guys I have ever met. He really catered to us and looked out for us. I have been to 3 different lodges up there, but always end up back at CHAPLEAU LODGE. None of the others compared. We usually go in between the middle of August to the middle of September. The fishing is always good. Anyways, great place, great people. By the way DTG, if you go up to the far end of the lake, there is a big area for casting for pike. On the average you can take a run up there and catch 4 or 5.
