40 hp merc power trim??

i jhave a 1993 40hp merc the trim goes up really slow and down really slow ,iwas wonder any u giuys know anything about them..was thinking jackoil could be used to refill it,it only had a few drops of oil in it raised all the way up.. thanks in advance for any help mark

The system response will be affected by the fluid viscosity i.e. Oil is thicker in cold weather. So make sure you use the specified oil and fill to correct level. If you still have a problem you may need service. Just as a side note, my yamaha 60 has two speeds. It starts slow and then raises faster if you continue to hold button. It is very slow in cold weather due to the viscosity of the cold oil. Make sure you use the specified oil to avoid damaging seals (some oils will not be compatible or too thick in cold conditions)
