I have been having a problem with my sets being set off and there being nothing in them . Was wondering if every one else has this problem. went out yesterday to find out that some one else has set up in the same area as me and there luck was better then mine because they caught one. I left my # but have not heard from them yet .

It would help to know what type of sets are getting tripped.
If it is foot holds it could be that the beaver are hitting the trap with there chest as the come up to the trap. Offset the traps to the side and put some sharpened sticks on an angle under water in front of the trap on an angle. When the beavers chest hits the sticks it will cause him to put his feet down and into the trap.
330's could be getting sprung by rats. They are really on the move right now since it is breeding time.

If you are talking about foot-hold's,what's the jaw spread?Could also be the beav's foot is spaning the jaw's of the trap and being thrown when the trap fire's.Even if you are setting for a front foot catch they may be hitting the trap with a hind foot.[happend to me twice this season.]I was lucky and got both of them, but I can see where a smaller trap would have missed them.I used bridger #3's this season[6 1/2 spread]but i'm going to pick up some 7 1/2 incher's this summer

I really think that the info you guys are giving me is going to be helpful . I was talking to tom in mesick and he said that it sounded like a chest or a really trap wizerd. I pulled that trap because the other guy moved in and caught one and I thought one out of there was enough but he caught another one today it looks really small from what I could see. I hope to try some more but I have to find some place first. THANKS

Had the same problemb before, turned out it was the other guy setting them off or clearing my traps. Couldn't figure out why he was catching more than i was until i ran my sets early. The guy was one of my good friends then

Are you setting your footholds off to one side?
If you are and they are getting sprung, try setting them to the other side. I had a trap spung three days in a row. I finnaly got smart and set it the the other side from where I normally did. Bingo!!!! It was nice not having to nail the front leg hole shut on that beaver.
NO foot = no hole to worry about. He was springing the trap with his shoulder.

I hope that was not the case . (the other trapper setting them off) If that was the case shame on me this year because I got flusterd and pulled it. He did manage to get two beaver in that area . I left a note and he seems to be ignoring it which doesn't make it sound like a good thing to me . Next year I will make sure I get the jump. Like i said I only live an 1/8 mile to this spot if there is any left. Do any of you guys use a nite latch on these sets.:16suspect
