View Full Version : Biggest walleye lure

OK just curious what you caught your biggest walleye on? I'll start:
Opening day like 3 or 4 years ago. 7.5 lb eye on a firetiger reef runner deep diver with cats blood. No not intentionally, I had the lure on a real high window sill (6 - 7 feet) and the cat jumped up on it and got the lure in 3 of his 4 paws. I was the only one home and it was an absolute nightmare. Poor little buggar, but he was ok after I cut the hooks to get them out of his pads. That cat was only like 6 months old I still to this day can't believe he made it up there. I forgot about the lure down in the basement after getting out of the cat, and when I found it the blood was basically covering it and wouldn't come off without taking all the paint off of it, so I tried it. About 20 minutes in the water and that walleye hammered it.
So let's hear em!

I'm sure you dont want to hear this, but I'm telling ya, and its true. My dad and I went fishing on an inland lake near the house, its about 60 acres and has some deep dropoffs, where of course we fish for bluegil. I threw on a big nasty leach about 7 feet below the tip of my 9 foot noodle rod rigged with 4 lb test. Well, I happened to catch an 8 lber that was about 29" long and this thing had shoulders on it..........Top that for crazy walleye lures. lol
Here's some pics of the 'ol guy....

In the mid 70's, after the ban on commercial and sport fishing in the Great Lakes was lifted, no one looked twice at a ten pounder. Out of myself and two other buddies that were out every night, we would pick up at least one that topped 15# every night. This is not imagination, or memory recalling things the way you wish they were, it was a result of a lack of pressure by mankind on the fish stocks for a few years.
Oh, and to the question, 11cm Rapala, silver w/ black back was usually the bait of choice. Sometimes a J-11.

I have caught a lot of eyes up to about 8 pounds on shallow or deep cranks, 3-5 inch lure size and with all the other usual offerings.
But every walleye I ever got over 8 pounds, was on a 3 inch jig of some sort or a live leech. Just how it's been for me anyways.
Not mentioning lost fish though. That'd be a few other stories to tell. Like that 18.5 pounder I once lost at......;)

Ive caught a few 11# Walleyes, and they all came on my homemade "Adam Bomb" jigs tipped with a minnow during the Winter or in the Spring. Those fish were even sweeter since i caught them on a jig i built myself...Theres nothing better.

10 pounder on an inland lake???? :D feel free to PM me the name of that undisclosed lake:lol:
Yup, inland lake ... with no connection (direct at least) to the Great Lakes. LMAO! ... Oh that lake has been disclosed (some might even say disscussed at nausiam) .... ... but I guess you have not been around here long enough. Do a search on this site for 'Freek' or take a look in the Master Angler website, under C&R for this year ... it will be obvious.
Thu the ice, my vote would go for the Jiggin Rap. Biggest, 8.7lbs from that little pond down the road.;)
BTW My twin 11's DID NOT come on X-Raps I know Robert .... but they didn't come out of da Freek either. I think I'll only be dreaming about a pair of twin 11's. Kinda like dreaming about a pair of double D's.:evilsmile

My two biggest were both caught during the closed season, one in the Big M the other in the Ausable. The one from the Big M was 12+, and the one on the Ausable was just a bit over 11, they both came on a wax worm behind a glow corkie.

I disagree Don ... I went out with Mr. Fishstein one time last fall ... and we(I) only caught one slimer. I think the success that night would have to be credited to the superb fishing abilities and YEARS of experience of Uncle Milty.:D
