I am looking to get a small heater to use in my Pop up camper for spring camping and fall Bowhunting, so I don't have to run off the main campers battery when there is no power, do those of you that have either of the Mr. Buddy Heaters think the reg Mr. Buddy heater will heat the inside of a pop up camper or tent enough, or would I be better off going with the Mr. Big Buddy heater that uses 2 propane cylinders and has a built in fan?
I like the Idea of the Reg Mr. Buddy heater it would be easier to haul out into the Deer blind or Ice shanty when I take the kids out, I'm just not sure if its big enough.
Thanks
Ken

I use the reg Mr Heater buddy in my deer blind which is6x6 7 feet high i run it on low and have to shut it off periodicaly all day keeps it very toasty same with the fish shacks. I dont see any problem of corse it matters how cold it is. Those little heater can really put off some heat, but the blinds and shack are insulated. The big one surely woudnt hurt. What you will want to go is buy the converter hose so you can hook the heater up to a 20 pound or bigger tank, run the hose outside of corse. The hose will run you 20 bucks or so, but you will be better off in the long run running bigger tanks for sure.

I use the Mr. Buddy in my pop-up with a hose attachment leading to my 20 lb tank.
I have used it in November and December....you willl find it to be adequate for October and the spring time...buy the bigger one if you want extra peace of mind, but the smaller one on the 9,000 BTU setting is supposed to heat 200 Sq. Feet.

the fan on the big one helps out to and is a nice feature, not sure if the small one has a fan

If you plan on using a 20 bulk tank don't forget to purchase a filter.

i use the buddy heater in my 30 ft. trailer until it gets really cold and it works fine. i also use a hose and tank which will last 3 days or so. they are great for shantys and blinds and don't forget in an emergency you can use the camper tanks. the good thing about them is the back, bottom, and sides don't get hot. now the bad--i've had trouble with mine and know 2 others that had the same trouble and that is after you had it awhile they will just shut off once in awhile. they say they have a low oxigen sensor but i belive the pilot light is set to barely keep the thermo cuppling hot enough to keep running and any less oxigen will make it burn less thus shutting off the gas. the fix is to raise the cuppling out of its groove and into the flame a little more but it sure sucks when you have traveled several miles to ice fish on a freezing day or it is in the middle of the night in a deer camp with not much light and less tools. don't know about the double tank ones and don't know if you could use a single hose with them. the fan must have to run on a battery and cheap small battery run fans are everywhere if you want one

forgot to say that when they shut off it wasn't due to low oxygen but some other factor which must be some small obstruction in the line or nozzle

Thanks guys, I figured by the rating that the Big Buddy would do the job, I think the fan runs on 4 or 6 D batteries, I liked the thought of the smaller one for the blind and Shanty, But I think I will lean toward the Big Buddy and the tank adapter just for the camper, and loss of power, and get one of the $40 black cat type directional bottle heaters for the blind.
Anybody know any place that has them on sale still? :chillin: they are getting hard to find.
thanks

i have both heaters and the larger one would be the one you want. i bought the 12 foot hose for mine and have 2--20 lb tanks. the larger one has the fan and uses d-cell batt. to run the fan. the filter is 9.99 at basspro and the 12foot hose is like 25$. the filter has to be used --only-- if you leave the hose connected to the heater when not in use, **due to the fact** that the gas will eat the rubber hose and cause it to melt and lodge in the carb and screw up or ruin the heater(130$$). both units have a low oxygen shut down saftey feature and a tip over shut off. after use i allways shut the valve off--disconnect the hose from tank and unit.
the real hot tip of the day is get and use the 20 or 30 lb tanks! or plan on buying stock in the gas company because those little tanks just don't get it at
3$ a tank verus 10$ for a 20lber

You can buy an adapter for a 20lb tank and use it to fill your 1lb tanks. It's easy to use, the cost less than $20 plus it's alot more portable.

Our farced ait furnace went out this year the week before deer camp in our cabin. We used my big buddy and the electric heat and we were fine. We did not use the 2olb tank but the small tanks and it worked great. We put it in the main room and it has been one of the best investments I have meade for sure

for gods sake and your,,, if you use one make sure it has a low oxygen sensor,,,, and it would be a good idea to use a co2 sensor as well... youd feel pretty stupid if you woke up dead.forgot to say that when they shut off it wasn't due to low oxygen but some other factor which must be some small obstruction in the line or nozzle

Amen to that!
Along that same line of thought, has anyone had any CO2 problems with these heaters? My popup doesnt have a heater and was going to buy one of these for deer camp heat but the CO2 thing (Dad was a Fire fighter for 25 years) scares me.
