I think when her husband asked her to throw some pork on the grill...she may have taken it a little differently than what he meant:):):).

You can read the story about the boar getting hit if you go to www.lenconnect.com (http://www.lenconnect.com) and type in wild boar in the search box.
I live near the spot it was hit, Go by there everyday and never seen one. I'll be lookinga little closer now:dizzy:

Wow! A wild hog/car collision sure sounds funny but it's a good sign that
they are doing good now and we should have a decent huntable population in a couple of years.
I can't wait to see my first out in the woods!

I live near sanford but frequent it alot.....By the black creek camp grounds they spotted a hog.. Two guys in a truck seen it and backed up and the passenger got out of the truck and flushed it to the road where the driver smucked it with the truck..Lil less to say there was some hella damage to the truck but they got the hog.. wouldnt it have been cheaper to leave the one guy with the hog and go get the gun?

I think you would think differently about a huntable population of hogs if you knew the damage that they would do to the environment, and that would'nt be good for a deer herd that already has to worry about T.B. and such. Not to mention the other critters

I have seen the damage that they have done around Houghton Lake. It is substantial. but from what I have seen I wouldnt say that it is something that is going to ruin the woods. I think that in a ag. area it would probably be a lot worse.
When this all started I was in agreement that they needed to be eliminated but the more I have seen and read. And by hunting and expieriencing how challenging they are, I now think that a huntable population might not be that bad. As far as the deer, from what I have seen the deer seem to do alright with the hogs in the southern states.

The problem with any hog population is the damage that will occur to ag areas and once you have an established population they are almost impossible to manage. Talk to any of the southern states, there is no season and no limit in most states and they are still swarmed with em. In some places they are shot and left for the buzzards. That is not the kind of practice I want to see here. I grew up on a farm, my Dad still runs a beef operation and has a hard enough time with the deer, adding hogs would be a disaster.

A buddy of mine hunts in Eaton county west of Charlotte and he said he was out bowhunting in early Nov. when he heard what he beleived to be a hog out in this big swamp just grunting and snorting and splashing around for almost 2 hours. He says it was definitely not a deer grunting. He never got a look at it though. Yeah I don't think hogs would be good for Michigan's farmers or the health of the deer herd. Nothing but trouble I think.

But I personally do not want them established here in Michigan. They do too much damage anywhere they go. Look at all the states that have them established, and they can do nothing to control them. I prefer to just keep hunting them elsewhere.

Anyone who thinks we should have a huntable population of hogs here in michigan is NUTS. These animals multiply like Rats. They can breed starting at 6 months of age, have as many as 14 in a litter, and have 2 litters a year so you do the math. The erosion they cause is terrible when they wallow in the swamps and ditches. They will scour a spot for food and destroy it.It is easy to say the damage we are seeing now is small but if they get established you will be singing a different tune..Kill'em all

Hey bud I"m real happy for ya and all, but as a sportsman, I think we all need to watch what type of pics be post on-line for the world to see. Your pic of the pig with it's belly opened up is a little over the edge to me, no need for that. I know this forum is full of people that have seen this type of thing before, but there are still a number of folks that this would turn away. We need to represent for a positive outlook, and guts does not! Too much blood too.
Again, I'm happy that your hunt went well and I'm not trying to pick a fight or drag down your accomplishment. Just trying to provide a little food for thought.
Again congrats!

Come on Dave,... give the guy a break here.
This IS a hunting/fishing website and if you haven't seen this kinda' exposition,.. or don't want to chance seeing it.
Then DON'T go to a website where the possibilities are that you might. :dizzy:
I'm just about fed up with all the stupid things one has to do now days to try and not step on anyones toes, .. or be politically correct for fear they MIGHT be offended.
It's gotten WAY out of hand.
Everyone knows that after any animal gets put down it needs to be opened up and have the internals removed,... even FISH. Ya' don't want to chance seeing this kind of display once in a while don't open a thread on a sportsman's website where it's a high possibility is it might be there.
Good Lord,... what's this world coming to anyhow.

I realize as much as the next person that hogs are not good anywhere for the environment, but from what I've read on them and their breeding and number of sightings I think they are here to stay now.
In the southern tiers most will be protected from the majority of the hunters IMO on private land like the deer are and will be impossible to keep in check.
So I figure I might as well keep a positive attitude and look forward to hunting them in the near future.
If I had my choice between piggies and them big dogs they are breeding up in the UP, I'll take the piggies anyday.:)

Good Lord,... what's this world coming to anyhow.  I agree totally. I belong to a fishing club and we had our montly meeting and the subject of bleeding out your walleyes coming back from canada due to the latest problem brought to us from the balast of saltys came up. Anyway one of our directors said they ruled canadian waters out because they did not want to give PETA any ammuntion knowing we would have to kill our walleyes under the new rules if we fished in canadian waters. So again the rights of the few supercede those of the majority. The silent majority is getting restless and I see a big storm on the horizon.

Shows how to gut a pig and more importantly the hunter is wearing gloves for protection.

I have no problem with that/those pictures and I very much appreciate you posting them. Having hunted in that part of the country it brought back good memories. Rarely post any pictures anymore for that very reason. Post a fish and you are holding it wrong, post a game bird and you get grilled as to why you killed it. Not worth the grief. Anyway, thanks for posting and please don't stop.

this is a sportsmans and sportswomens site the last time i checked it out! if you can't deal with these pics don't come to this site! those pics tell it like it is, and if you think that the ***food ferry*** comes every night to your icebox and deep freezer and waves a magic wond and the food appears every day your **nuts**! this is a fact of life, people eat meat and people kill animals and this shows proper wild game handling to the next generation of hunters. sorry, but as a matter of fact i'am not sorry at all i think i'll go get some porky pig and grill it now!

Let me answer that like this...........
I once flew down here with a bow instead of a gun. The land owner was actually mad. They much rather you show up with grenade launchers and semi-autos!
A few years ago, a number of farmers got together and recruited as many hunters/dogs as they could. They drove their fields and killed over 300 hogs in a day. A year later, the hogs were back and continued the property damage.

Yogi wasn't being held open! It's perty obvious to see that I fall in the minority on this one, heck I might be alone (and that's ok). As I stated in my previous post, I'm not trying to rattle anyones cage or offend Skioomaster. It is still my opinion (and maybe only my opinion) that when we place these photos on here, that we should attempt to make them tasteful. No guts, no brains, no blood soaked hunters. Again only my opinion!

matt, i share your excitement about any huntable game..... but...and its a huge but, these animals have the potential to destroy our agriculture business and decimate native animals. they are no more a good thing then zebra muscles or sea lamprey. we really need to get after them and do what we can to limit their success. my hmble opinion.Wow! Anyone is welcome. Get your butt down to Snyder, TX this coming Friday! (3/30) We will be hunting Fri night, Sat all day. And then again on Tues (4/3). Open game on cats, coyts, and hogs.
The large pig in the pics we took to the taxidermist for a European mount. We prefer to process the ones under 100 lbs. Taste much better...

I have been trying to find some of these ferrals for nearly a year. I know of at least 4 groups of people hunting them..and ALL of them are carefull not to shoot all of them, and none of them will share the location of any of the hogs.
Hunters themselves are going to end up allowing these to spread, if they won't share the location of them with others willing (and wanting!) to take some.
Soooooooo..if anyone out there has any idea where there are some to be found...I'd love to know!

Here's a post from another forum that might help you out where some of them are....
Thanks for the updates Dave!!!
Recent sighting for you to take back to the forum:
Oakland county, near Ware and Anderson Rd. (a group of six to eight pigs reported here)
Gratiot county, near M-57 and Ransom Rds. (hit the Gratiot-Saginaw State Game Area), numerous pigs seen
Gratiot county, Maple River State Game Area off of Maple Rd. and Wilson Rd., numerous pigs seen
Oceana county, both north and south of Walkerville
Roscommon county, Baccus Creek Flooding area, numerous pigs seen
Ogemaw county, east of West Branch (west of Lake Ogemaw), numerous pigs seen, some taken
Lenawee county, I had reports of more than one pig where the roadkill pig was hit
Hope this helps. If any of your hunters are going out and would like specifics for the area they are going to hunt, have them email me and I'll let them know locations of sightings for those areas.
Thanks again.

Just a different angle of thought. If these things populate out of control and spread, they will compete with the native species. Just think of what pigs can do to winter deer yards and other sanctuaries. Not good!
Nwing
03-31-2007, 01:40 AM
Thanks guys. I had found Kristine's email on the DNR site, and emailed her yesterday. She very promptly got back with me, and was very helpfull, and plan's on keeping me up to date on locations. Right now, pretty much what was posted here...but she pledged to keep me updated with new reports. I agree...if these things get out of controll, they can play havoc with both agriculture and native wildlife..
I'll do my part, and keep updates here from time to time when I get a good angle on locations.
