Does anyone have any experience with this? I would appreciate any insight as we are anxious to get fishing and we are looking for a new reason to get out earlier this spring.

Thanks

Been there and done that...........

Unless you enjoy fishing memories, I wouldn't waste my time.

Certain "Outdoor Writers" hype this every Spring in the TCRE.
As usual, its just B.S. I understand it used to be a decent fishery. Those days are long gone IME.

Head for Frankfort.

frankfort is a good choice, body baits and planer boards. Good way to start the season frankfort, manistee, and ludington and not nessesarily in that order but those would be my top choices.

My favorite fishing of the year is the spring running the shallows for the browns. Just waiting for the O/D to tick bottom as the wave drops out from under you..The state of the brown trout fishing in this MI is barely short of non-existant. But still we go and chase the elusive football of the Great Lakes...After reading last years charter reports I am not sure I am going to waste my time this year. This was printed in the Ludington Daily News and Hamilton Beach reprinted it here..

"In April of 1999, charter boats hauled in 76 brown trout on their way to 387 for the year. In 2005, that number had fallen to 343. In 2006, just 76 brown trout were caught for the entire season."

Here is a link to Hamilton Beach's post...

Who am I kidding  I will be out there looking to tag a brown or a steelie. If it were called catching instead of fishing, we'd all be using nets!!!
