Fired up "ole Bessie," changed the oil and de-winterized her for the first trip of the season. Besides a few trips to the St.Joe and some to deer camp, she's been sitting there waiting to go.

We'll take her to Harbor Beach, to catch up with some fellow campers at North Park. Bob (Getaway) has been there for a few days and another member Art (Still Jerkin') ended up a seasonal at the park.

It will be fun swapping stories that have been compiled over the winter months. I can hear the whir of the blender already.

My wife has been busy purchsing new gadgets and essentials throughout the winter and I could see she is anxious to put them to use.

What is it about camping that lures us?
Is it the camaraderie, the landscape, the tranquility or just the breaking away from the daily grind?
More than likely, it's a combination of all the above.
Nothing like a leisure cup of coffee or a walk in the park with the hound at my side. A nice BBQ'd steak along with a crisp salad for dinner. Campfires and good company during the evening hours add to the ambiance.

As you can tell, I'm ready :)

Waking up in the middle of the night listening to the parent's giggle and laugh, then waking up with the sun coming through your tent on to your back with the smell of scramble eggs.
Then going fishing or filling up the truck for a day of offroading.

Life doesn't get any better, right?

Shoeman,
Your right, it is all those things, ("camaraderie, the landscape, the tranquility or just the breaking away from the daily grind?)" Plus the idea of just exploring what we haven't seen yet. I've been camping most of my life, and remember times that were allowed to just set up a tent on the beach of Lake Michigan. I've set up my truck camper in the middle of no where, to the largest State Parks, where you smell coffee and bacon cookin in the morning. Theirs something I liked about them all. But the best is finding a piece of land that hasn't been turned upside down by campers. Somewhere where the Eagles fly and the deer and bear can be seen out the door. Its exciting when a big old black bear decides the tailgate on the truck is a nice place to investigate. Its even nicer to know your inside hoping he doesn't want to see what the inside looks like. Or when you're setting on that tailgate and an Eagle buzz's over at tree top level. Feeding the squirrels and chipmunks by hand. Having a chickadee drill his claws threw your hat and into your head. Oh yes its that time of year again. From now until the pipes freeze.

The thought of the hussle and bustle world no where near, and actually being able to see so many stars in a clear night. The first time i took the wife camping up to dougans near port crescent state park, we went for a walk on the beach around 10:30 pm and there were so many stars it was incredibaly tranquil. She was sold, now every winter she can't wait to get back to get the gear ready.
