If anybody knows of any bowfishing charters shoot me a PM or email: gvdocholiday@gmail.com
I'm a newbie for the most part and really have no idea what's legal and what isn't. The DNR fish guide is really no help whatsoever. I mean what the heck is FO-219 that the chart references? Also, what is FO-210? I have no idea where to find this and it seems kinda queer that they don't put this list in the fish guide especially since they reference it.
I'm fully equipped for bowfishing, I have an AMS reel, arrows, safety slides, multiple muzzy quick release points, and an old compound bow set at 50lbs that I have just watertuned. That shaft cuts the water with a nice ploop.
I just need someone who has a boat and is looking to take a few people and a camera person out on the water...night, day, morning, evening, doesn't matter. Just let me know. Thanks.

Those are Fish Orders (FO's). Little difficut to print all fish orders in a guide.

I now see why. Thanks Boehr.
Dang...they really limit the water bodies here in Manistee Co. That stretch of little Bear Creek is roughly 200 yards of barely flowing creek that is all on private land. Heck I'd know the perfect place for a little late night sucker/carp shooting on the banks of the BigM down by Whitefence. Why the limited opportunities for bowfishing? Not only in my county but in the entire state.

I bowfish from ice out up to deer season. I have heard of some guys bowfishing when theres still ice. You have to find a place where the current keeps the river from freezing or where there is a warm water discharge. Any of the harbors along the lake will hold carp pretty much all summer. I have an alumacraft boat that I use along with an electric trolling motor and spotlight. I dont really like using it for bowfishing because of the carpet, a 16ft or bigger jon boat would be perfect. There are some rivers around here that hold carp and gar in the spring that you can walk the banks before the grass gets too tall. Check out this site. You can learn a lot on there. See ya

Actually I'm up to the next best thing...Monster Bows LLC Phoenix. No steel cables to worry about snapping on me. Plus the Phoenix is a little better tolerances in the manufacturing process with a much smoother draw. "It's niiiiice"
Come on up to Caseville the first weekend in June, and I'll put you on carp. You wont need a boat, just some waders.

You bowfish with that? How expensive is it? Does it handle a heavy fiberglass arrow?
If you guys are going to caseville the first week of june I will come if you need an extra person. I am usually up there a few times a year anyway. You may not need a boat to fish from but you will need one to put all the dead fish in:D I have heard of guys filling several jon boats with dead carp to the point where they almost sink. Man I am getting exited!!

If you bow fish carp up in Caseville you will get more practice in two days than you could get in a year. Neal and his Dad run a great tournament up there. I've worked it prior years and one that hasn't seen the results most of the time might not believe it.

What do you do with carp after you shoot em, is it legal to just toss them back or do you have to take them home and act like your going to use them for something?

War Eagle. Im pretty sure it is illegal to just leave them at the lake/river where they were shot. As with all hunting, bowfishing, trapping, there are people out there that want to take these things away from sportsmen. I have heard of people dragging the dead fish on the boat launch and then just leaving them all there to rot. Its that type of crap that gives bowfishermen a bad name! I have heard of pig farmers that will take the fish to feed to their pigs.

carp are good food... try it what do you have to lose. the biggest fanciest restraunts used to serve it and charge crazy prices for it. learn to cook it and you won't be sorry.
at any rate never leave them behind. not in the water,,, not at the dock,,,not in a trash can in a launch site or park.
this will only anger those that do not understand what your doing.
burry them in your garden, put them in a proper dumpster. what ever,,,just don't leave a stinky mess of rotten fish for someone else to deal with.
all sportsmen need to be very aware of public oppinion right now. the anti hunters won't stop with hunting,, fishing is on their list too. we have to raise our level of behaviour to a level beyound reproach from the general public.
remember to act like a gentleman in the outdoors, the sport you save may be your own.

The fish from out tournament are disposed of by farmers who use them for fertilizer and/or burried on private property.....and before the "Oh what a waste" comments come, we have tried to give these fish away to anyone who will take them, even the pet food companies dont want anything to do with them. They are a non-native fish that destroys the shoreline habitat, for both fish and fowl species.
Here's a pic of some of the fish, taken during our record year of 287,000 pounds of rough fish.

Hey, sorry but I have to disagree with you there. I have not tried eating carp in the past but I would not recommend eating them to anyone. I am not saying that based on taste but rather on the contaminents that they hold. I am not sure that I will be keeping any game fish this year and especially not carp! I am not even sure that they are listed in the contaminent advisory book. There is no shortage of them for the taking though if you seriously eat them.
