I just read a post on Great Mich about Higgins. Someone there got a $115 fine for not having a State Park sticker while at the State Park. I remember a thread recently where someone said something to the effect of "....if you get a ticket, you pay the daily fee or buy a park sticker for $25..." Unfortunately, this recent post didn't seem to be the case.

Anyways, just a heads up for the rest of you guys fishing at Higgins. I don't know the details other than what I read on GreatMich, so be careful where you park.

From the sounds of it, they received the misdemeanor ticket. If you fail to purchase a state park MVP, a violation notice is issued, which, if redeemed within 48 hours costs you either the $6 for a day pass or $24 for an annual. However, should you choose not to purchase that pass, the violation can then be switched to a misdemeanor, which depending upon the court, can get you a greater fine.

I was issued a ticket for parking in the north lot also. This was the first time that we have ever had a problem during the winter needing to have a permit. Im not saying that what I did was right but they came in on Fri. and wrote tickets, but did not on the Sat. I know that this is not the only thing that the DNR has to do, but if they are going to make a big deal about this they should have the guard house open so you can buy your sticker or pay the daily fee. We were out before the main office was open and left after it had closed. If someone would have been at the guard shack it would eliminate this problem. I did send in the ticket and now have my permit for the year like I get every year, but they need to have some sort of consistency.

sleepy hollow has a machine by the shack, it doesn't work, but it's there. this is the first year that they have checked in about 5 so. maybe the govenor wants to make sure she gets all the money due the state. I have been in a lot of other states and must say we do get quite a bit for our money. just my .02. Don

Went by chilson pond earlier this year and every vehicle in the lot had a ticket on it. Must have been 10 vehicles. They aren't kidding when it says "state park sticker required", and it's not like you don't know you need a new one at the beginning of the year.

I talked to the DNR office in Roscommon yesturday and they wanted to remind me that if I use a state launch I will need a state launch sticker
($24), and if I am going to be using a launch located in a state park, I will need to purchase a state park sticker also. ($24). He informed me that I would only need to have the launch sticker if someone was at the check in shack. Reguardless I would need a state park sticker to enter the park.I dont think the ticket or the hassel is worth the 48 dollars that I will be
using to purchase the stickers in the spring anyway. So I'm headed to the DNR office today to donate my dollars to the governor.

I would like to point out that higgins lake is 9600 acres, with probably 50-100 access points including several launches. the only place you have to pay are the dnr sites. the vast majority are free !!!!!!

ALL OF THE ROAD ENDS ARE LEGAL ACCESS TO THE LAKE. The only roads that are closed to parking are posted, and its very few. as far as the use of road ends the law that is currently in effect only prohibits docks and hoists, picnicing and sunbathing. AND you can sunbathe and picnic at the road end IF you are fishing because FISHING IS EXEMPT. So if you have a line in even if the water is only a couple inches deep it is perfectly legal to relax at the road end.

As far as the ongoing road end issue. I have lived here all my life and we didnt have these problems until the flatlanders started coming up here from theyre private lakes down state and thinking that they were going to make higgins just like where they came from. I have been and will continue to use whatever roadend I chose too, right to the very limit of the law. I have already told several of them to **** off, and I look forward to telling some more this summer.

There are parking fee collection tubes in the park, right near the entrance. Put your daily fee in there if you are going to use the access without a sticker. I have never had a problem there.

if there is no warning sign i dont think they can ticket you. and they should have some one sitting at the guard station taking money. heck if theres over a foot of ice just park on the ice they cant give you a ticket for that. unless you go through.:)
