I thought I'd put it to a vote here - Either in favor of lifting the Night-time Caliber Restrictions for Predator Hunting or not.

Have no problem the way it is, doing fine that way. 22cal or smaller CF would be fine for a serious varmint hunter if needed. Think anything bigger could be abused by some but would really give the anti's some ammo to exploit. Really don't see the need to change, getting them in close is the real fun anyway.

I agree with cobra, call them in closer. The animals are less wary at night, and shouldn't spot you as easily. Leave the long shots for the daytime when they hang up, and you know what is behind your target. Not to mention what your target truely is. ( coyote or neighbors German shepard?)

I voted 22 center. That's all you need to have confidence in your round, and its still not a cannon. Night vision....who wants night vision?

I voted to allow all centerfires because the current regs are keeping us from hunting hogs at night.

Maybe no one has thought of this or maybe its just my opionon but for people that own small parcels like 40 or less and have houses next to them that own small parcels also. could you imagine sleeping at 3 am at night and all of a sudden being woke up in the middle of the night with someones 270 going off? and again and again all night? maybe this would not be as big of a problem as it seems to me but i think it could get annoying to people that have to work the next morning?

If it were only 40 acres, wouldn't you hear the call anyways? So you would already be awake. So it wouldn't matter. And a shotgun is just as loud isn't it?

This is a good example of misinformation.

Calling coyotes in nothing like calling waterfowl. It is rare for a hunter to have an opportunity to shoot more twice at any particular stand. It is true that an adjacent landowner may get woke up at 3am by a shot. But, the "and again and again all night" part is hogwash...

And even if we don't get the caliber restriction changed people can still be waken up by the legal shotguns so that isn't a legitimate arguement at all....

You all jumpin me for nothing i would just like to let you know that and i quote from my origanal post that none of you have quoted
" maybe this would not be as big of a problem as it seems to me"
It was more of a opinion and qeustion then it was a fact.

yep.. and we've shot at coyotes on still, january nights with shotguns, within a few hundred yards of my house, and no one even notices.

i really think that people who feel that rimfire 22's are sufficient on coyotes, even at close ranges, must not hunt them much at all.

not a chance i'd take a rimfire out for coyote at night. shotgun or nothing at all..

its hard enough with quality glass at short distances to discern kill zones in the darkness. its a silhouette, at night time. with a heavy coat that makes it look bigger than it is. a couple of inches means the difference between lungs and shoulders.

a .223 is a far better, and more humane tool than a 22 mag, at any distance.

there's simply no reason.. it was a p*ss-poor law to begin with, established to prevent "poaching" of deer - had nothing to do with varmint hunting safety, noise, etc.. as we all know, that certainly won't stop night-time poaching.

But then again, most people that are against lifting the Caliber restrictions - Don't hunt them. Good point - rzdrmh!
