When i was a kid we never bought bait. We would catch crawlers at the golf course and then there were always places to catch minnows along the end of the cottages on the end of the channel, either in glass traps or an umbrela net.
Oh the good ole' days!

Being a city boy, I too can remember being told by my Dad to go out in the backyard and get some crawlers, after a rain. I always knew a day of fishing was near!
Wow, You really brought up an old memory there! THANKS!!!;)

Thanks, you never know about these things, and I didn't want to get in the jackpot over this.

best way to get crawlers was always to water the lawn for a bit before dusk, then once it was good and dark we went out with flashlights, if you hit them directly with the beam, they seemed to feel it, but if you just shined to the side, you could reach down and pick em up.
it was easy to pick up 20 bucks worth of crawlers in 20 minutes....they would last us a weekend

We stayed on the island just past the Belvedere Boat Club. As a kid, my great grandfather would take my best friend and I there all week long. Our favortite hot spots were either behind Ole' Dr. Payne's boat house or under the green house straight across from Deckers (I believe it's been fixed and painted white now). We could even get the big spot tails in the nets down off buoy 19.
That's what mondays were all about for us, getting minnows for the rest of the week.
Can't hardly drive down your street anymore without getting completely nostalgic!

When I was a kid my dad would take me along with the guys up to white lake in canada. 12 hours in the van then load up the 14ft alum boat. and drive that another 3 hours till we set up camp on the shore. there were at least 2 other boats but ours was the biggest. we would stay all week. now that is camping to me. when people invite me to go to a campground all I can think is "this ain't camping" we would eat the fish we caught. but we allways had enough food. great memories.:)

Picking crawlers in the back yard was fun and works great! There are a few days in the spring, when Its drizzly and dark all morning. Hit those parking lots and scoop enough crawlers to last 6 months. Easy pickings.

I think your safe as long as you dont have over 500, at least that what i think it was for indiana when I lived there and prob. the same for michigan i would think. I think over 500 you need a dealers license to have that many in your pocession but i could be wrong.
