I saw a program for securing your home with a camera. My problem is my cabin up north--no electricity, and I am currently using trail cams to try to catch the thiefs...the problem is they flash and the crooks take them.

The camera I saw on the home show was:
1) digital
2) took movies (I believe 8 second clips)
3) was camoflauged---one looked like a book and another like a kleenex box
4) it was placed inside the residence
5) it did not need a flash--took pics in the dark with infrared
6) it was portable (used batteries)
7) it was small (about the size of a pack of cigarettes) and plain looking
8) and most importantly, it was motion/heat activated

I've been unable to locate a camera with the above characteristics anywhere after 4 weeks of searching in stores and on the net. Can anyone point me in the right direction, as my cabin is getting broken in to on a regular basis, and I sure would like to catch the culprit?

Thank you,
Steve

Steve, another thing you can do is hide a trail cam along the driveway to get a picture of the car and plate #. On some of the new cameras you can turn the flash off or get one with IR? Sorry to hear that you keep getting broke into. Nice world we live in, good neighbors are your best defense.

Nearest neighbor is 3 miles away--cabin is in the swamp with strongly gated drive. Thieves are walking in at night. Got that link you posted to work, but those all require a VCR to tape--no electricity.

I need a battery powered camera that has a self contained recorder with a card in it that will work in very low light, and not be noticed. Even a few trail cams that could do this would work, but I have never used trail cams that didn't have a flash, and I'm having problems locating one that will work for me.

The cameras hidden in a smoke or carbon monoxide detector would be great--wanna put one in the cabin and one in the shed (possible one outdoors to monitor the entrance.

Found this also, EZ-EYE, mini spy camera. Runs on battery and says it will record for 1 to 2 weeks?http://www.ezwatchstore.com/shop/Wireless-Color-Spy-Camera-with-Built-in-DVR-pr-16272.html?OVRAW=spy%20cameras&OVKEY=spy%20camera&OVMTC=standard

what I'm lookin' for, but need low light capability and do not see where is says how much light is needed. Also looking for something less obvious (like a fake smoke detector with a camera in it).

Thanks for your help.

You might have a hard time without having power. I found the smoke detector camera, but it only runs for 5 hours on 8 AA batteries. I'm just bored, And I would love to see you catch these A-holes.http://www.e-spy-cameras.com/dosmdenacams.html Do a search for nanny cams, they have a bunch of different cameras. Keep us posted if you catch these losers!

what I am looking for, except it is not self contained (has to be wired to a vcr or dvd to record), and it is not motion activated (it's on all the time).

Maybe I am asking too much in a camera!:dizzy:
