Came back last after fishing last weekend. I didn't make it all the way to tippy but did fish Suicide Bend. I hooked a chromer that I lost at shore (I horsed it because it wasn't hook and it broke me off). Only saw one other fish hooked (not landed) and two jumping. There were alot of suckers in the river.
I believe the run is over for the most part but if you are going to catch fish in there Tippy is the place. There should be a fair number above and below the coffer still waiting to spawn. It turned cold last week and not expected to warm until Saturday. It may trigger another small run if it warms.
Most of the businesses are complaining because the weather caused the fish to run and spawn all in about 10 days. They are hurting for business after a winter of no snow.
Good Luck, I am staying at Twin Oaks campground but planning on chasing browns in the pine. I am leaving Sat and returning on Tuesday. If you stop by (I have a red ford f150 and am near the front of the campground) we can share info and maybe hook up for some fishing.

CrazyD we fished the low side of tippy on wednesday. The water was over the bottom steps good thing less that 20 guys on the river. Still a good number of fish below. took three fresh fish from daylight until about 8:00 am. Thats for a party of three. all came on olive egg sucking leaches. a Lot of suckers and alot of little salmon 9" or less. Only seen two other steelhead they were both from acrossed the river on the bend looked like bobbers and wigglers.
Moved above the coffer about 9ish til 11iish bobbers and wigglers had three more steelhead on never landed a one. Again plenty of little salmon around. talked to a river guide at high bridge after lunch. Siad fish are falling back fast He had boated four fish on chrome black wiggle warts. Hope this helps.

You mentioned that most of the fish came and spawned in about 10 days. I am wondering what the dates where for that 10 days?
It seems like I have not been able to hit the run up there just right in a few years.
Thanks

Steelhead are spotty for a couple miles below Tippy, but definately a few still available. Crowds extremely light, sight fishing conditions perfect if your into that kinda thing. It's been a wonderful year on the Manistee....

Just got back. Saw about 5 fish landed all day yesterday from Tippy. Some rain clouded the water alittle. Browns were just planted and it is hard to keep the little ones off your lines.
