I thought i could see the open water at Ginos about 2 miles out, if that. Also thought i saw a freightor way out there. BTW, 8-10 inches of ice, but, that is deceiving, the ice is almost honey-combing, deffinently weakening, it is probably the equivilent to 6-7 inches. I didn't even see any machines out there, but, i am sure they would've been fine. An idiot with a nice new Dodge Ram parked a bit out from the ramp, of course, on the way in i saw it fell in.

Can't wait to hear any of the people that try to tell me, oh we'll be on the ice for 2 more weeks, probably til April!:dizzy::lol: Dudes, the ice never makes it to April. Doesn't matter what kind of winter, or how thick the ice gets, it just doesn't make it. To many other ice destroying variables involving the fresh water delta known as LSC. Growing up on LSC as a Shorian, there's a reason why you can drive on Northbound Jefferson and pass West Marine at 10 mile, and see the countdown sign of Days until LAUNCH. LAUNCH is always set for April 1st. Even the winters when I was real little and there were 20 inches+ all over the place. And every year like clockwork, Launch happens on 4-1, and within 3-4 days after that, my Cals move in.;) I've been able to use Tigers Home Opener as the almost dead on barometer for when the Cals stack up in the shallows for the past 20 years.
I say good riddance. This ice season was to short anyway. All we need now is a prolonged NorthEast wind to pop that plug and send what's left on it's way. Time to get serious. Break the boats out fellas!! :woohoo1:

Ha, yeah, you were right. This is the first year i have seriously fished LSC. 2 Sundays ago, there was 16 inches, Sunday, there was about 12-14 inches, 2 days later 8-10(maybe a bit more), and this ice was not in good shape. If we do get rain tommarrow and Thursday, that ice will be, if not gone, will be in bad shape. However, i hear ice out is the best time to get them.
I was thinking Sunday of launching my kayak from Ginos, if i find the spot i have been killing em, i think i will continue to kill em. Just find a small anchor form the garage, anchor on a good spot, go down there with a perch spreader and maybe a slip bobber, and i think if there are light winds, i will be able to do that and get into em.

you may re-think that kayak idea. You take on a little water, and it's curtains this time of year. I hope you have a mustang suit.
Sometimes fishing at the clinton river gets decent from shore in the early spring.

I have fished in my kayak several times this early and earlier. I know on the big lake i will need very lite winds in order to do that. I am thinking of just hitting up some canals on Sunday in the kayak, but, i think if the winds are lite on Sunday, i would give a thought to Ginos.

John, when me and Gary Gaw was talking to Kieth Kavajecz, he asked him if a tournament was on the line and he waqs a fish short, would he use a real minnow (or live bait) or a GULP bait. He said with no hesitation "GULP".

Really? Cuz if you go to page 60 up there at the top, you'll find the final threads to the end of the 04-05 ice season. Like normal, there all on 3-30 or 3-31. Everyone saying thier final goodbyes. And on page 60, there's a thread started by Neil Duffey called "Anyone heading out right now?". You have a post in there on 3-31 stating that you already had all your ice gear put away, and broke out the casting rods. If your referring to when Slammer and Yellowbelly (not sure if you are, I could be wrong if your not referring to them) were pulled off an iceflow, that was that same year. March of 05. The ice didn't make it to April.
Plus, I'm going through my logbook.;):p My Cals have always stacked up between 3-31 and 4-10 almost every year of my life. For that to happen, it usually takes a good week of no ice in the canals and marinas that I fish in for them to move in to the real shallows. Immediately after the ice is gone in my spots, there's always alot of crap, debris, and the water is just in junky shape. But, with some winds, usually after about a week (again, 3-31 to 4-10 since I started becoming a Cal maniac at age 5) of sun beating on the shallows, they move in to begin the spawning ritual. It's always cool watching em sunbathe and chase your minnow around.;):D Soon, it'll be here very soon.:woohoo1:
