How far is the gun good for?

I have a bolt-action savge In a 22 mag. I use the gun for hunting woodchuck and sometimes squirel. What is the max range for shooting a yote with this caliber and what grain bullet should i try using

I also forgot to mention that i have a staight 4x scope on the gun

The Max range for a 22Mag depends on the Bullet type - but I get the best using V-MAX Ballistic tip Remingtons - it also depends on wind speed and type of scope being used - I use a 4-12x50 and I'm pretty consistant to right around 170 yds - 6" paper plate, after that range your basically pushing your luck - no need to wound an animal just call it in closer - for a good kill shot.
