Me and the old man got out to Ginos today, carrying lite, we joined the the bucket ranks today, and left the shanties at home. Started at about 10:30 in 10 ft, just before the ice piles, a bit south of the building, nothing for about 20 minutes, then we made a move, that turned out to be the move. We went more south, and in closer, set up in about 8' of water. It took a couple minutes after i got down there, but, i got into right away. It was fast and furiousfor a while, then it slowed for about an hour and a half(i am guessing around 1 o'clock) only got maybe 3 keepers and a bunch of dinks in that stretch of time. Then it got steady for a while, then it got fast and furious again the last hour-hour and a half. However, that was just me, my dad not fishing 30-50' away from me only got around 12-15. Of course, as my fish pile grew, so did the crowd around me, but, never saw anyone bringing them in. It seemed it did slow when the crowd reached it's peak, and as they left, it got good again.
First time i ever had to count my fish, counted them at the #'s of 31, 44, and 50. My first 100% true limit of perch. I did end up throwing back about 10 legit keepers in the end, and gave my dad about 3 or 4 smaller ones(hope the "perch police" don't give me a hard time on that one  ) So, an awesome day, plus it was sunny, warm(when the east wind wasn'y blowing, actually got frostnipped on my hands), just a tremendous day on the ice, deffinently one of my personal best. Not only that, the size was better than it has been all year, did keep a few quetionable ones, but most were honest 8+, with a few 9+. No hogs, did lose what felt like one right at the end. For some reason, i lost about 15 fish, most being nice, right at the hole, got aggrevating for a while.
I was using perch colored jiggin rap w/bead, and the minnow. The minnow was once again the top producer, but, the rap did produce well and did usually catch keepers. Also, sorry forgot the camera, so you can't see the ice conditions. Just take my word for it, it is still very solid, 12 inches, i couldn't see the end to the ice, cars were on the ice...the ice is FINE!!! It will take more that a few warm days to melt the ice, this is the best time of the year to ice fish. Now comes filleting them :dizzy: , i am too tired tonight to do too many, hopefully dad can finish them up tommarrow.

One thing i noticed is most people were fishing too deep. Maybe for eyes, but, the perch are moving in shallower. The size is starting to get a little bigger. I like getting right on the dropoff, where it goes from about 5 to 10 feet gradually, i sit in about 7-8', lots of weeds and today lots of fish. I haven't gotten anything in 10' in 3 weeks, 2 weeks they were in 8-9, last week 7-8, this week pretty much the same. I go south of the building, actually pretty much right in between Ginos and Beacon's. It should be noted that i didn't see too many people getting into em, and my dad was fishing close to me all day and didn't get into em like i did. Sometimes as little as 10' away can make all the difference, obviously you don't want to fishin with about 50' of someone fishing(actually, 100' is better, no one came too close to me luckily)

Still a good foot of solid ice, the top inch was slushy by the end of the day though. Hopefully we don't get the rain later in the week like they're saying, rain is an ice killer.
