That answers my question to self as to how he and the quad were flying around out there with the open holes I saw. The guy on the mini bike should be next......

The knuckle head on the iceboat sure enjoyed buzzing my shanty.

I was the knuckle head that put the machine in the gas pocket. A good samaritan (Thanks Rob!) pulled my machine out.

We had been fishing out from Gino's and hadn't seen any ice thinner than 12" any where we had been. The ironic part is that I had just told my 4 yr old son, who was with me, that I wanted to stay out from shore to avoid any gas pockets that normally form in shallow...Anyway, thank God we're both ok, the machine and all my gear is out and enough people know about that area to stay away.

I've fished that area for over 20 yrs and never had any problems in that area with gas pockets before. But this was anything but a normal winter. The ice down the point off the basketball courts is normally where you get up-welling or gas pockets. The time for machines is definitely over gang.

Hope this post saves some one from going through and maybe not being so lucky.

Fished off the day sail ramp this afternoon, dink city, I think I had the smallest dink winner, but I didnt have my camera, so I let the beast go:lol: Ran into Salmonslammer on the way out, good to see you Brian. Anyway fished south of the ramp, in tight, out to about 6 feet of water, could not catch anything bigger then 6 inches to save my life, water was a little dirty, heard from some guys comeing in, that they were doing good out from there by the 1st pressure crack, they said one guy had half a pail of 8-10's, and a couple small walleye. What a nice afternoon out there. Caught about 50 fish, no keepers.

Fished off the jet ski ramp with my Brother in law, and we caught a ton of fish. (Just over 100) But.... we had to throw most back. We did manage 1 10.5", and 5, 9". The rest that we kept were 7's and 8's. Most action came between 130 and 4 pm. The funny thing was that we caught almost all of our fish on teardrops, a red jenson egg, and a minnow head. They would not take the whole minnow. We were fishing in 3.5 fow, only about 75 yds off shore. Easy walk! We also saw a little musky, (about 20") swim right below my hole. I could have reached in and grabbed him! Maybe in 5-6 more years I'll catch him when he's all grown up! I might be heading out tomorrow to a canal south of the spillway, but I am not sure!

If your walking around the spillway use your spud;) I normally stop working that area after a few big rains and the spillway opens.

Thanks Ed,

If I didn't have a friend who lived on a canal there I wouldn't walk down there at all. But I really appreciate the advice. Reading on here from all of the more experienced people has helped me learn a lot more about the lake! Thanks for the heads up!
