Sorry but I can`t answer that. What I don`t understand is why they put a season on them in the first place?I can remember when we would hunt them in the spring when you could only turkey hunt untill noon.

There are seasons on crows because the Federal Govt mandates seasons. The Feds say that there can only be so many months that the states can allow crow hunting. It is up to each state as to when they have their seasons which is why Michagan's seasons can be different than another states.
Crows are a migratory bird and do migrate over national borders which seems to be why the Feds got involved.
There are some excellent web pages and web sites on varmints and crows. Well worth doing a search and taking a look at them.

Yeah that. If I remember right they migrate heavily into Mexico and for some reason Mexico depends on this migration.

There's not too many crows up here anyways....mostly ravens. I don't know if the distinguish between the two for hunting purposes, but it may be something to ask if you try to contact the DNR with the question. Keep me posted if you do.

Thank`s guy`s,I didn`t know the Feds where involved.
The raven is Mexico's national bird and in a "trade" we put seasons on ravens and crows in exchange for waterfowl seasons in Mexico.

There are a lot of crows and ravens. It is easy to tell them apart. I thought ravens were protected.

"Cause" what?? You didn't mention anything so I have to guess that it relates to the msg immediately above it. Is it in response to this quote below:

If it is it is because the Crow (as a specie) is a migratory bird and is crossing international boundaries. Mexico considers the Crow to be a food bird from what I remember reading.

Bmac is correct.
The question remains unanswered, I couldn't find out a reason either on the DNR website. I think it's a good question though . . . .
Well, the Yooper must have extenating circumstances, like the snow is too deep at that time of year --

I'd say we made out like bandits in that "trade". ;)

Do a google search, or any other search engine of your choice, and see what comes up. So far I have found articles on the treaties with Mexico, history of the crow treaties, and if I dug a bit further I would find out what biological factors are having an effect on the crow hunting seasons for the UP.

I really doubt the Migratory Bird Treaty has anything at all to do with the UP crow season. It is more likely the fact that we don't have much farm land in the UP so the numbers are lower for the Common Crow. I still think Ravens are protected in MI. That would be a good question for the DNR website.
