12 feet of water is like 3 miles out! Ice is close to 18". some guys were out at least 5 miles. Lots of fish to be taken at St' Lukes and big ones. Get there early! They shut right down today at 11:30 sharp. Same story all over the bay. Good luck!

Castmaster, where you out there today? The fishing sucked for us. We ended up with 25 keeper's for 2 guys, and we didn't see too many caught. Based on the machines moving around and the info. we got from other's, it was an off day for most.

Grizz, to answer your question, yes, 1.5 will put you in 12 fow. At one point today, we were 1.6 miles out from St. Luke's and we were in the 12 fow range. We walked out even further, 2.5 - 3 miles, fishing wasn't better but the conditions for walking are great. Good luck!

What time did you get out? Did you get a late start??
I'm trying to make sense out of yours and castmasters report??? They seem to conflict!

I was over there today too (St. Lukes). Real slow for me. However I didn't start till 11:00 or so. Looks like you might need a four wheel drive to park at the marina. Getting pretty sloppy.

I'm realizing that a "good day" is different for all of us. Some think a limit of 10"+ fish is good, some may think 25 8"+ is a good day. While others catching 300 dinks and getting 10 keepers is good. I guess the moral of the story is...any day you get to fish and get off the ice safely is.......a good day.

We were there Thursday and brought home 100 keepers between 4 of us...to us that's slow. I heard the same went on today.

I agree with you! I was just confused by posts 3 and 4. I think some may have missed the early bite.
It is looking like I will be there Sunday, bright and early!!! I think the time change is coming at just the right time this year.
I see in your profile you are a golf course super. Which course???

Gowanie Golf Club in Mt. Clemens. It's the course to the west as you cross the Clinton River from I-94. We're the last piece of greenscape left in the town:lol: .

I didn't know that everyone else didn't do well cause we all took home 30+ fish. we were out past the first pressure crack probably half mile. Right on the inside edge of the rough ice. We try to stay away from the groups of people. We alway's seem to do better that way.

Any way ...Who to get a better report from than a Canadien for fishing in Canada! RIGHT!!!!:D

I fished with Fried Fillets yesterday at St. Lukes. Its not that we did not catch any fish, its that we really didn't get into the quality bite we were hoping for. Our biggest fish probably 11 inches. We had a total of 31 with some of those being 7 inchers(don't worry Steve those were in my bucket so it does not effect your standing as an 8 inch and over only fish snob).
We caught and saw fish being caught all day(7:30a-5:00p). Guys using canadian style tip downs with minnows seemed to be doing the best.
Fish were there according to guys with flashers and cameras the bite was just tough. Tried everything in the box including a silver Hali jig for the first time and really worked well. Problem was we were into small fish at the time.

On a positive note Fried Fillets caught three nice smallies out of the same hole towards the end of the day.

As info the parking areas at St. Lukes was in rough shape yesterday, I can't
imagine what it will be like today after last nights rain.

Whats everyones opinion about the border crossing choices we have? Which one do you think is most user friendly and quickest? Fried Fillets seemed to think that the tunnel is the way to go. Going over-no problem. Coming back-almost two hours extra. One hour on the canadian side waiting to get to the tunnel(had time to walk to Tim Hortons and get coffee), and one hour waiting in line on U.S. side to clear customs. Just wondering about your opinion. I'm a bridge man myself, but I was not driving.
We still had a great time and lots of laughs. As a matter of fact, Steve/FF was laughing so hard as we were clearing customs that I thought the agent would be suspicious and feel he had something to hide and it warranted a more intrusive inspection that includes two people present and a rubber glove.:tdo12:

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I am easily CONFUSED!!!:dizzy:
As far as crossing into Canada, I am fortunate to live near Algonac, and use the ferry. Sure does save time!!!

Czar, thanks for the kind words about being a "perch keeper snob", my brother would probably second that comment. As far as the border crossing; A) I know you love coffee, which you wouldn't have had going over the bridge, and B) the 2 hours of entertainment at the bridge made up for the 8 hours of "ice walking".

March break staryed yesterday. Alot of people were probably heading to your side of the border to go south for vacation yesterday. Could explain the busy border. I crossed today to go to Bass Pro and the border was jammed gonig into the US. Every booth was open and cars were backed up halfway across the bridge.

Went yesterday, fished all the waypoints we've been fishing for the last 3 weeks, VERY-VERY SLOW....Got 25 keepers for 4 guys......Made that ice Swiss Cheese looking for them though.. Maybe they will turn on for them today. Same guys I went with yesterday, are going back today. Hoping on the "Todays the day" deal.....
