I have a 17ft alumacraft navigator SC. It has a 70hp Johnson 2 stroke on it. (oil injected) I would like to add a 4 stroke kicker that will pull gas from the big tank. How much HP should I look at without adding a ton of weight. I would like to be able move faster than the current at the mouth of the SCR in Port Huron. With a north wind that current can move pretty fast. I think a 9.9 is a little big.. what do you guys think

I think that if you plan on sticking with a 4 stroke, 6 or 8 hp should be enough, we have a yamaha 6HP 4 Stroke on our 18ft Tracker Targa and it will puch the boat 7-8 MPH at full throttle

Do you notice the weight being offset to the big motor? Im guessing your boat is a side console as well. I figure I will put it on the port side so that when I am driving it wont tip as bad. Thanks Matt

boat is a dual console, I do not notice much of a difference, but ours is mounted on the port side as well...

A 9.9 is a good motor. An 8hp would probably also do. Just my $0.02 but I wouldn't go smaller than an 8.

Weight balance isn't an issue when you have 1 or 2 guys in the boat plus hear.
