I got to the lake (new lake for me) around 1pm, drilled hole, hooked on depth finder to hook, got the depth, hooked on a couple spikes and started dropping the line down the hole. I got to my line marker and shut the bail and then I felt it, it took the bait on the way down. This is the biggest perch I've ever got. This is the only fish that I got today, but well worth it to me. http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/529/medium/03_7_07_ice_fishing.JPGhttp://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/500/medium/3_7_07_ice_fishing.JPG

I bet it would be, but I'm going to try to get it mounted. If I do it would be my first mounted fish.

Congrats on your biggest perch:) nice fish. I don't mean to pee on your party but would seriously think about getting it mounted, on good perch waters 12 and 13 inchers are not really uncommon, just something to think about;)

Congrats. I know I've caught and threw back my share of dinks this year. I'd take it. I probably would fillet it though. Hunting for that fish that you kNOW you got to mount is what keeps me coming back.

nice perch but I agree it is a little small for mounting, unless you are going to mount it in an action pose with a big northern or walleye chasing it. I have a mount like that that came out looking really nice.

If it's your biggest and you want to mount it then I say mount it. Don't listen to these guys... they are just jealous!

Nice catch. You do what you want. Sometimes people should just keep their hands off the keyboard.

I agree that is a nice perch....especially if it is an inland lake. It is very fat for a 10-11" perch. That being said, unless this has sentimental value to you I would keep the picture and search for a bigger fish to mount. (BTW....make sure no one can see you when you mount the fish! ) In Ohio a 13" might be a mount...in MI even bigger. If you live up to your name and hunt and fish to live then you will undoubtedly catch a bigger perch in the future....possibly even the next time you go out. What will you do if you mount this one and then catch numbers of bigger fish in one day (which is very possible on Erie, LSC, Saginaw Bay, etc.)? This could get expensive!:yikes:
If this fish means something to you and you have the cash, by all means have it mounted! If you think this is the perch of a lifetime for you, you should be pleasantly surprised by the size and numbers available to perch fisherman in MI and that should change your mind about mounting this one. A search here for perch pictures should support what I'm saying!
Regardless....nice fish!

I agree with mounting it. If it is a special fish for you then go for it. There are definatley bigger fish out there but anymore alot of fish I mount are for different reasons than just being a huge fish. Congrats on the nice perch.

If you are proud of it and it is special to you, which it sound's like it is. Mount it. But be careful, it get's addicting. I mounted my first a few years ago. A 44" northern, Now I have deer, turkey, coyote, bear, bobcat, and 11 fish. And my wife hates them all(which deep down is the reason I keep doing it I think. So congrats and find a good taxidermist.

Hey, put your guns away, I was tactfull in what I said. Just something to think about before just rushing into it. I am not jealous if those comments were directed my way just look in my gallery, plus I have a 14 3/4'' in the freezer taken last year, It looked huge but not compared to the 15 1/8" my son caught last year that I am currently looking at on the wall as I type this. Everyone has different goals and who is anyone else to judge.:)

When you've got a nice fish with a good story behind it - it's wall time. I've got a 19" bass in the freezer from this summer that will be heading to the taxidermist sometime soon. 19" for a bass isn't huge for Michigan or the lake it was caught in, but it's my personal best. Heck, I woke up my wife when I got home just to show her the monster I caught...she was thrilled:rolleyes:

Wow you really don't get it then. The beauty of fishing and hunting is each and every person connects in their own way. I think it's cool a guy don't need yours or anyone elses approval to decide what means alot to him. He wants to relive that moment forever.....wow how spine tinglingly cool! And guess what it doesent matter what you think it's way deeper then that:chillin:

Every animal that I receive is a trophy to me, weather its a 10" perch or record fish, a doe or a monster buck, they are all trophies in MY book.
:) Thanks huxIIIhammer I couldn't have said it any better.:)
