I'm certainly not an expert on motors, but in my experience, major manufacturers (Evin, Merc, Yam, etc.) haven't made a 5 hp in many moons, but have made "even numbered" hp's. In other words, 2, 4, 6, 8, then 9.9, etc. Yes, you'll find some old used 5hp's out there. But I think you'd have more luck looking for a 4 or 6 instead. I have one of each, both Evin's, both from the mid-late 80's, and both still run like a top (not for sale though  ). Someone else who's more of a motor historian could tell you more, but seems like I haven't seen any new 5's manufactured for well over 20 years?

What are you planning on using it for? If it's for a square back canoe or small boat, the little evinrude or johnson 2hp kickers are great little motors that you can find once in a while at garage sales (have one myself). Or the little 4hp's as well. I used to own a little 3.5 hp air cooled "backpacking" motor, I think the engine was a B & S, but it was under some other name, and it was not worth the time. I'd take the little Evinrude 2 anyday.

I am pretty sure the Briggs 5hps are air cooled and VERY loud!

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Try Vans Sport Center, on Alpine 364-0666 sometimes they carry an inventory of smaller, older outboards

I have one and you are correct on both of these. While it does run good and takes straight gas since it is a four stroke, it is loud and has a very strong vibration to it. These would be good for slow trolling.

I have been looking for a small engine for my 8 ft pontoon fishing boat and there seem to be quite a few old/used ones there. Need to be careful though, as some have not been run in a while. I was going to send you the link but i dont have enough postings yet (need 15).

If it's going on a canoe, a tiller mount electric trolling motor would work great. I used a 50lbs thrust Minn Kota on a 17' canoe for a couple years, it was excellent.

Honda only makes quiet 4 stroke gas sipping life time motors.
I have a 2003 5 HP
Sold my 20+ year old alleged 10 HP Honda because of weight. That motor was more reliable then my timex. Flawless. Ran all day on a gallon.

I say alleged 10 HP because later in the 1980's Honda started measuring HP at the prop vs. the crank and it dropped to an 8 HP.
