1. You have to believe that passing a constitutional ammendment against gay marriage is more important than protecting the environment, feeding the homeless, providing quality medical care to soldiers injured in Iraq, basically anything that actually has anything to do with the type of morality jesus spoke of in his teaching. Funny Joke huh!

Actually this amendment is directly related to that which Jesus and God spoke of in the bible as an abomonation. The funny part is you didn't know that:lol:

I'm sure there will be as much generalization, falsehoods, & general B.S. on this thread as there was on the other. Both party's have lots of problems and both are guilty of partisian crud that does not serve us well.

The base of this word is of course "simple". How appropriate since it is apparently coming from an uneducated liberal who finds it easier to speak of conservatives in this way that to actually hold an intelligent conversation.

As a strict conservative, I feel that each of these topics listed in the original post have merit. Labeling one as a higher priority than the others is again, simple ignorance.

Then again, to correctly speak of the morality in the teaching of Jesus, one would have to actually read and study the teaching of Jesus.

This should be moved to the politic section...nothing funny here.

No need to take offense. The statement was made toward the original poster who is obviously both a liberal and uneducated.

I would love to see a quote from jesus from the bible where he states that homosexuality is an abomination. Most references to homosexuality in the bible come from Hebrew cultural law/tradition i.e. see the book of Liviticus. If one were to take all of the laws in this section literally it would be just as bad to where two types of fabric at the same time or to kill an oxen. As far as funny goes...... #2. way to be a good conservative. To state that Nixon was one of our greatest Presidents. Even though he lied to the American people and partook in specific illegal activities and tried to subvert the Democratic process of the United States. Man I'm killin myself here, this is some funny stuff.

I'm think that is how most homosexuals justify what they do. As far as the only reference being in the old testiment it is also listed as sin in 1 Corintians 6:9-11 and 1 Timothy 1: 9-11 in the new testament.

Warning Against False Teachers of the Law

3As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer 4nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work—which is by faith. 5The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. 7They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

This didn't start out as funny. Then it got worse. Let's either get funny or move this somewhere else.
As a Conservative and someone who is fairly familiar with the Christian Scriptures, let me make the following offering to turn this thread in a funny direction:
How to be a good conservative:
1) Don't trust anyone who doesn't eat meat or drink beer.
2) Consider going to a high school play (vs. a movie) as being "cultured".
3) Wear a suit without a button down collar, when you want to express
your individuality.
4) Keep hoping for a Beatles reunion.
5) Consider Lambrusco to be a "fine wine"
6) You and your wife lie in bed and read The Wall Street Journal as foreplay.
7) You wonder if Jesus meant it literally when he said, "Give to him who begs from you and do not refuse him who would borrow....", or if he was REALLY trying to introduce the world's first profit-sharing plan.

Truth? The first post was an emotional reaction to a News piece i read about the Evangelical movement getting involved in issues Like Global warming and Aids in Africa. That one fella, last name Dobson, I don't even know his first name. His involvement in this movement has to do with him trying to disuade members of the Evangelical movement from getting involved in issues that don't have ethical implications like the aforementioned 2 issues. So basically I took this type of viepoint as meaning that preserving the environment so our children and grandchildren can enjoy the things that we currently can is not a moral issue and caring for sick children is not a moral issue, but trying to make sure gay individuals in the US will never be able to Marry is.
I'm still waiting to read a satement by Jesus in the Bible that states that homosexuality is wrong. This belief is constantly stated by christians who supposedly believe in the teachings of Christ, but where is this teaching? I'm not claiming to be a bible scholar in any sense of the word, so someone help me out please.
I posted this in this forum because this is where the other how to be thread was at, personally i really don't think much to do with the state of politics in the US is funny in anyway. Sick and tragic yes, hopefully in a generation or two Americans will wake up and stop putting up with the lies and corruption that is and has been going on, and maybe, just maybe Americans will stop playing this liberal/conservative ingroup/outgroup game and start worrying about the issues that truly matter.

 Ok. Context man, context.
Mathew 7
1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
Oh my what is this? I thought he just said we couldn't judge. Is he telling us we better judge in righteousness because we will also be judged?
5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
But didn't he just say this.
3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
Wonder what the moral of the story is?
Did you cut off your right hand when it sinned? Did you pluck your eye out when it caused you to lust?

So much for comedy. I have never found it helpful to use the Bible to debate particular political agendas, particularly when the attitude of the debate is antgonistic. IMHO, doing so distorts the entire spirit behind Holy Scripture and reduces it to a tool for rhetoric, instead of respecting it as a means to grow in love for God and for others. Perhaps this thread should be moved after all.

On second thought, I just CAN'T give up on the stated intent (maybe I take things too much at face value:confused: ) of this thread, so here goes:

What it takes to be a Conservative:

#9: You think Ann Coulter is hot.
#10: You wonder if NPR is really a front for a communist spy ring.

To be a good conservative:

#11 for a hike you "Sweat to the Oldies" with Richard Simmons

#12 You say you have gay friends because you spend 10 minuits a day...see #11

#13 You have to be for less government while supporting party memebers who increase spending and government.

#14 Against anything fun & cool because if it became the norm they would be considered square.

#15 Favorite music video is Neil Diamond "coming to America" concert.

#16 Talk about how the less fortunate need to help themselves but then turn around and make a donation to the the less fortunate for tax benefits.

You left out the rest of the quote which spoke of shame and gulit as the motivating factors. Remember I said most, perhaps it is just some, but I''l throw out one name, Ted Haggard. I don't ever recall reading any headlines that state "Liberal politician caught having sex in the Bathroom of Public Rest area." Its always seems to be the ultra right wing christian public figures that get caught up in gay sex scandals. In the previous post was actually speaking in a historical context. Now from my personal opinion I would break down those males in our society currently who are militantly (homophobic/those who hate gay people) as follows: 35%- Those who have engaged in previous homosexual act or have felt urges too engage in such acts. These individuals turn their self hatred toward other because of their guilt/ shame. 50%- These individuals are followers, they have grown up around member of the previous group and the later group and they feel that if they do not state their hatred of gay people then their freinds will think they are gay. Membership in this group can also be shaped by false religious teaching (i.e. Jesus said Gay people are bad). 15%- These are just horribly mean spirited individuals thay will victimize any group that has less power than themselves: women, minorities, the disabled, etc...Now these numbers may be at bit off, but I would put money on these numbers being within 5 % if there was anyway to get real self disclosure on this topic. I guess I could try to do a sociological study by getting members of these groups rerally drunk to see if they would open up and talk about there feeling, but I think being around a large group of people like this who are heavily intoxicated would put myself in danger of gang rape. I guess I'll just stick to my opinions and whenever i hear an individual talking about how wrong or gross homosexuality is I'll just think to myself, "Man, this guy is sooo gay"

18) Believe being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.
19) Believe government should relax regulation of Big Business and Big Money but crack down on individuals who use marijuana to relieve the pain of illness.
20) Believe "Standing Tall for America" means firing your workers and moving their jobs to India.
21) Believe a woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
22) Believe Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
23) Believe the best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.
24) Believe if condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
25) Believe a good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.
26) Believe providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.
27) Believe global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.
28) Believe Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney and Rumsfield did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
29) Believe a president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense. A president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.
30) Believe government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.
31) Believe the public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.
32) Believe what Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

You are truly a man who can see beyond his ideology. Let me add my accolades from the right side of the aisle. I, too, love to see spirited debate and lively humor that stays away from personal attacks....In fact, you seem so fair minded and rational that you may even become a conservative when you grow up:lol:

My thanks to you too! You even taught me a new word: "accolades"! For a moment I thought you were offering me a Caddilac SUV! As far as becoming a conservatives goes, if I have to grow up to be one, I don't want anything to do with it! In the words of John Cougar (cougar alert!): "growin' up only leads to growin' old and then to dying, and dying to me don't sound like all that much fun".
